Avatar expectations...

I feel like I am waiting on a little visit from the stork! Oh when oh when will my precious little avatar be here?

It shows in my profile, and I've noticed when I click on some other users names they have them there, too...yet I saw someone is a DISCUSSION THREAD with an avatar displayed!

Oh what a happy day that must have been for them!!

Soon I hope to see my little avatar, too, prancing about the threads, and thriving.

Are you talking about the threads that come from the news/rumors/gossip tab? All of those have mini pictures in the OP.

reply

Mmmmm! Could be!

reply

c; I like your avatar, btw. It's adorable!

reply

Merci! For a while I got kind of fascinated by angry possums : )

But now the WORLD must see my angry little possum cub (and your shapely, serene Princess Leia!!!) IN THESE THREADS! But maybe displaying them here takes up too much memory...
.

reply

I saved a bunch of baby possums one time. I would tell the story, but it isn't pretty.

reply

They really are vile creatures...but then, they seem to inspire the creeps in us just because they're so unfortunately ugly : ( Which isn't very nice of us.

I mean, they're not that different from raccoons, really...it's just raccoons are cute and whimsical looking, while poor possums are somehow....wretched.
.

reply

It pays to be pretty. Le sigh

reply

hahaha!

I think this is my fav possum pic (it's how I feel when someone wakes me up too early!)

reply

Yep. Me when my cat wakes me up before my alarm. Grumble

reply

They are cute!!!!

reply

Oh God, you must have been ripped apart!

reply

No no, the mommy was killed and the babies were still trying to nurse. I worked for a healthcare facility, so I slapped some gloves on and pried the babies off. It was pretty morbid and a lot harder than you'd think. My coworkers and I called around and found a wildlife place that happily took them from us.

reply

Wow, you are a great person to do that for them. Did they survive and did you release them or give them to a wild animal refuge? I know a woman who takes in raccoons and releases them.

reply

It was heartbreaking to see them nursing on their dead mum. I couldn't let them die like that. The wildlife people told us they would release them when they got old enough.

reply

I could see myself doing that and crying and cringing at the same time. :( poor little darlings.

reply

Haha, yeah, I shut my mind off and tried to focus on the task at hand. It was weird.

reply

I can do that with people but can't with babies or animals,; they are so innocent, i love them it just hurts too much. but the important thing is i get it done.

reply

I would be crying a long while. My boyfriend would be like, "why didn't you call me, i would have done it, honey?" but with his big hands it would be better in that situation to just do it and cry. I am deeply connected to Nature and animals. You too, it seems.

reply

Yes, when you see one in an actual thread, it's because someone replied to one of those news articles under news rumors gossip. Once a person replies to one of those, the thread gets moved over into the general discussion section and you will see the article's thumbnail.

reply

avatars only show in your profile. Nowhere else.

reply

Ah, well....I shall keep the dream alive in my heart.

Thanx!
.

reply

Oh I hope they don't start showing in threads.

reply

But it's how one can keep the different posters straight in your head, at a glance. I like that. (But the avatars should be small.)

reply

Amen...

reply

If the avatars are small, then it would be nice. I think Jim was worried about too many avatar pictures taking up memory and load-time, however.

reply

But people can change avis frequently so then you still can't use them to identify the poster.
We can't change our usernames, so that's a more reliable method.

reply

Yes, I see your point. I myself had the same avatar for a decade or so at imdb.

For me, it's less work to see an image at a glance than to read something like lincolnshirelad5721....which doesn't have as much immediate personality.

Exactly. Even 24x24 (like imdb.com) or 32x32 mini avatars would be better.

Your avatar is terrifying and will now haunt my dreams.

If avatars ever start showing up in threads, I will have to make mine a baited possum trap for protection.

reply

Oh dear. Sorry!

It's just a ruffled little baby possum that could probably fit in the palm of your hand!

You could teach it a different way in life : )

Yes, and after a formal education in philosophy, arts and letters:

hahahaha! So cute!

The thing I like about my avatar is it looks like it's somehow complaining : ) It's going "WAwawawawawaWAWAwawawaWA!"
.

reply

I'm expecting something like a Mouseover with profile Picture, i wonder if that would reduce the loading time?

reply

Well, i meant for my name to read-indieanna for my love of indies but i thought indianna was just as good bc it's the female version of indiana jones!

reply

I hope we can get small avatar later on. Maybe when the site picks up and there's an upgrade to the system, then we'll see avatar added to our posts.

It's not vital to posting (Reddit doesn't have them either and that hasn't hurt them), but I think having it here helps attract more new users. If they see other IMDB substitute sites having them and not MC, they may perceive it as a loss. It's not that big a deal to me, but that's how they might see it. Plus having avatars helps us identify users faster, and soon you have an even faster growing community.

Once i was in northern california on the deck in a spa. There was an empty pizza box next to us. I looked over and there was this adorable little opossum opening the box-they have opposable thumbs like raccoons-it was sooo cute!!!
