UPDATE: Trending Section

There's a new "Trending" section at the top of the home page. This will list the movies, tv shows and actors that have the most recent activity. This should help people see what others are talking about and generate more activity in the individual boards.

Also, if you haven't already seen it, I added edit/delete functionality earlier today.

Notifications are on the way :)

Thanks Jim! Will there be a way to recover passwords at all in the end, maybe via e-mail? I first registered here at a time when my computer was broken. Now it is fixed I tried to log in but apparently kept getting the password wrong so just had to register a new name instead.

Thanks again for all your wonderful work! :)

Another way to increase board traffic would be to add links to movie boards at the top of the box office and to those opening soon.

Since the Oscars are this weekend, maybe temporarily add links to the nominated movies and people.

Does anybody still have the problem of having to log in every time they come back to the site?

Weird. Now I got kicked EVERY time I close my browser. Yesterday I didn't have that problem.

Hm, I don't know. I don't want to bother poor jim if I'm the only one having the problem.

Well, I did post it in this thread, so we'll see. If I'm still having the same problem tomorrow, I might start a thread. Thanks anyway, folks!

reply

You never know if others are having the problem as well. It's like what teachers would always say, "raise your hand and ask the question because chances are more students have it too and are too afraid to ask!"

I don't think it'd hurt, but your choice, of course. I could email him for you, if you're too unsure about it.

reply

I'm going to bed anyway, so I'll see how things stand tomorrow. Good night!

reply

Night! Hope it's fixed for you tomorrow!

reply

Hm, hasn't been a problem for me. I'm only kicked for updates too it seems. Maybe email Jim about it? Or ask on here and see if he answers?

Good luck!

reply

I haven't had to re-log for at least a day or two now.

The Trending feature is excellent, but now that the traffic is increasing you might want to feature more than two rows of topics.

reply

I was thinking the same thing. Personally, I'd like to see a whole day's worth of postings, so I can browse through them at the end of the day. Maybe a "More" button linking to a page of topics. But that's probably asking for too much.

reply

Yeah, the more topics they feature, the more likely they are to get posts. Don't know how hard that is to execute, but it would help keep more discussions going.

reply

Yeah, something along those lines would be useful. Logging on this morning, the oldest post in the trending section was only an hour ago, lol.

Love it! It took me over to Columbo to post where I found a few fans! LOL!

Seriously..... you are doing an excellent job. All of your efforts are very much appreciated.
I like it here.

reply

Thanks, Jim...and this is coming from a longtime IMDB user who has found a new home after they closed down their message boards! You have a great website here....as it looks and feels just like IMDB.

Thank you again for all of your hard work here!

I really like this feature, it's quite interesting to see what boards people post on and makes me visit some movies I'd forgotten about.

reply

I discovered a show that looks really interesting, that I didn't even know existed, thanks to Trending Section.

reply

I remembered a show that somebody had recommended to me (The Expanse) because it might be something I like. Looks good. :-)

reply

Just curious, which show? No worries if you don't feel like answering.

reply

MovieChat.org looks better every day :)

It was the series called "The OA"... a mix of paranormal and SF.

I've never heard of it before I saw it in the Trending Section.

Love the trending feature and it's size. Too many other places make their pictures too big for the page.
