The worst thing this website could have done is introduce a political forum...

This website should be about movies, not politics... now whenever I go to a celebrity's page or a movie's page, it is swamped with republican talking points that have nothing to do with filmmaking at hand. God, this website has fallen from grace, which once showed promise...

So, right there, in that sentence, YOU made it political. So what’s the difference with it being swamped with Democrats talking points that have nothing to do with anything? Oh, that’s ok, because you agree with those talking points, right?

And hey, if you don’t like political discussion, here’s an idea…don’t engage in political discussion! Simple as that. But, assuming you are a liberal upset at conservative talk…you really are doing the 2021 liberal thing and trying to shut down and ban the speech you disagree with, and that is pure garbage!

And another thing that should be obvious, if you don’t like the site, go somewhere else. No one has a gun to your head and is forcing you to engage in discussions you don’t like on here.

I made a reply to the user RandallGraves already basically addressing everything you just said. I never said I would be okay with democratic talking points on non-political pages either; you just put words in my mouth.

If you don't like the political discussions, stay out of the political forum and focus on the movies/tv you like. No sense in whining about something you can't control.

All these sites have a politics board and the politics boards almost always end up being the most active one. People like to argue. It's what we are, especially lately. All politics all the time.

reply

The politics board is very active so it might be a way to attract viewers to the site. When I post on the politics board, I get multiple responses in a day. If I post on a movie or tv show, I might not receive a response until weeks or months later. The politics board is a great way to exchange ideas and support positions with links, articles, etc. We all have different world views so we won't agree on many issues.

The main reason for that is new posts on the political forum stay visible for several days.

New posts on movies etc… disappear from the trending section in minutes to make room for the usual posts on the 3740584th Batman, or that chic that became a dude, or some lemming bitching about how boring 2001 was for the 14748531th time.

I think it's the best thing tbh. The GD page was always about US politics. At least this way that page can be kept for General Discussion and the political folk can still chat about their topics without it bothering others on their own page.

Makes sense to me.

I think it's good that people have a place to come without censorship.
Too bad, though, that it only seems to attract the extremes from both sides that get off on hurling insults. It would be great to see more actual communication.
