$1.9T Rescue Plan - 9% Directly fighting COVID, 85% So-called COVID related, 6% PORK!

So much pork for the utopian left dream.

How anyone still thinks the government is on their side is just straight up delusional at this point.

reply

duh ! I knew this under Dem admins, but under pub admins, it's reliably deplorable.
Dems make a point to try to help people who need help.
pubs make a point to help rich people, and appeal to dumb people so they will vainly hope they will help them.

Ted Cruz, help me !
Yes, I will from Cancun or Orlando, with the $$ you gave me.
I can justify it in the end.

Fox news and an anti-working class, pro-rich politician are not sources for accurate information re: the stimulus bill.

Stop with the left vs right nonsense. We're all in the same country. Americans are starving. Some risk losing their homes because they lost their jobs.

If you want ACCURATE INFORMATION, you can read the bill itself:
https://docs.house.gov/billsthisweek/20210222/BILLS-117hrPIH-american-rescue-planRH.pdf

The first 10-pages contain the List of Contents which shows where the money is going.

Every item targets those who are struggling because of covid: individuals; small businesses; whole industries like restaurants & airlines; local governments which lost revenue, institutions; infrastructure. Also expenses related to defeating covid like vaccines and medical care.

I don't see any "pork". If you do, point it out.

Another unbiased source is the "Journal of Accountancy":

"...includes $1,400 stimulus checks to individuals, an extension of unemployment benefits, and tens of billions in aid for small businesses and not-for-profits."

*$350 billion for state, local, and Tribal governments, many of which have experienced a reduction in tax revenue as a result of the pandemic.

*About $130 billion for K-12 schools and $40 billion for colleges and universities.

*More than $75 billion for COVID-19 testing and support of the vaccine rollout, including funds for hospitals, public health agencies, and biomedical research.

Small businesses:

$7.25 billion for Paycheck Protection Program

$15 billion for targeted Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) advance payments.

$25 billion for restaurants, bars, and other eligible providers of food and drink.

$1.25 billion for shuttered venue operators.

$175 million to increase awareness of and participation in COVID-19 relief programs for business owners lacking access."

Did you read past Title I ?

National Endowment For The Arts

National Endowment For Humanities

And on and on it goes. What in the hell does the above have to do with Covid Relief?

According to The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board, a “generous definition of Covid-related provisions tallies some $825 billion,” in the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, while the rest goes towards “bailouts for Democratic constituencies, expansions of progressive programs, pork, and unrelated policy changes.”

The editors conclude that it’s disingenuous to call it a COVID relief bill when in reality it’s a “progressive blowout for the ages that does little for the economy but will finance Democratic interest groups for years.”

reply

Which specific section in the bill are you referring to? There is no Title 1.

The WSJ is a Republican paper with a pro-rich bias. I doubt they were against giving a taxcut to billionaires who didn't need one.

Everything in the bill specifically helps average Americans who are suffering. Why do YOU want to help only rich people?

reply

Apparently you didn’t read your link you posted...The Bill...Under table of contents there is

Title I Committee on Agriculture followed by Title II

reply

You mean Sections 2021 & 2022.

News flash! They are both a part of the federal government. If you read the sections, then you would know that money is being appropriated for covid relief. People who work in those industries are suffering too, and need help to survive.

The language in the bill states it's specifically for covid relief:

"... of the costs of the programs which the grants support, to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from the coronavirus."

reply

So, pretty much everything then. Everyone is suffering from COVID so might as well just fund everything and say it's for COVID relief is pretty much what this bill is.

reply

You're deflecting. Your original post said the stimulus relief wasn't going for covid-related help when it clearly is. I didn't see anything in the bill that was pork. What makes you believe multi-billionaire Rupert Murdoch and his political lackey can relate to struggling Americans?

I find it sad that you want your fellow Americans to go hungry and lose their homes.

reply

$1.5 million bridge connecting New York and Canada; a $100 million underground rail project in Silicon Valley; $480 million for Native American language preservation and maintenance; and $50 million in environmental justice grants. PORK!

I will revise the title.

reply

Naming a few things out of context and writing pork is irrelevant. I already know you're purposely leaving out pertinent information which establishes the above to covid relief since I'm familiar with a few from an article. I prefer to reference the bill. What sections in the bill so I can properly respond and place them in context?

Part 2 Miscellaneous

Sec. 2021, 2022, 2023

What does National Endowment For The Arts, etc. have to do with Covid relief? There are more items which are definitely questionable as Covid-19 relief.

reply

Sec. 2021. National endowment for the arts.
Sec. 2022. National endowment for the humanities.
Sec. 2023. Institute of museum and library services.

I already answered this question above. Scroll up to my post which begins "You mean Sections 2021 & 2022".

Museums, libraries, theaters, concerts, etc. were all shut down because of covid. Employees are out of work. Meanwhile, theaters, concert halls, museums, etc. also have expenses which they continue to pay like rent. They need to survive in order to reopen which this bill helps.

reply

They should just hire you for responsible federal budget. You clearly know far better than the experts on what should be considered COVID-related relief or not.

I can see you're no different from the right on what they claim as right and wrong since you're clearly a staunch Democrat and to you, almost if not every choice they make is fact and/or correct and will defend it so until the dirt comes out.

The fact you don't consider any part of the bill as pork just shows. There are COVID policies and there are non-COVID policies, as simple as that.

So to give us the classic Rorikon middle-of-the-road take on leftist "pork," you've decided to go to Bartiromo and McCarthy, two hacks who worship at the feet of 21% approval McConnell?

Okay, I guess.

I just report the news man, Faux News that is. It don't matter what I think.
