I don't like Frances McDormand's acting

You're in the minority there, Bubba.

The first time I saw her was in "Fargo". Her acting style reminded me of the goofy next-door-neighbor housewives of 1960s sitcoms.

reply

She was not good in FARGO or THREE BILLBOARDS. But she was great in this movie and even better in OLIVE KITTEREDGE.

reply

SO,WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS "She was not good in FARGO or THREE BILLBOARDS."?...BOTH FILMS THAT SHE WON OSCARS FOR?🤔

reply

Yes, I am saying that. I have lived in Minnesota for years although I’m not originally from here, so I can hear the Minnesota accent more accurately than practically anyone. And hers was not even close. There were a couple minor characters in that movie who did it well: the father-in-law who loved hockey, and one of the prostitutes in the motel. And Macy does a decent job.

I do still love that movie BTW! Much more for the scenes she’s not in, which fortunately is most of them.

And BILLBOARDS is just a hot mess in general. The less said about that one the better. Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson are also fine actors who were wasted in that piece of trash.

reply

FAIR ENOUGH...ALTHOUGH I DISAGREE ENTIRELY ON BOTH COUNTS.

reply

That is not her "acting style", but the demands of the character she was playing.

reply

yep

I was mixed on the film as a whole but I thought her performance was excellent - one of her best, which is a pretty high bar. I think she's a great actress.

reply

Please elaborate?

reply

Her face is generally expressionless, unless she twists it into an 'I'm puzzled' or an 'I'm stoic' expression. Her whole style is just wooden. Lifeless. I find her hard to watch.

reply

So why did you have to be asked to explain that instead of putting it in your initial post? That really says a lot about you. Poor expressive and communication skills. Maybe that is why you need someone to overact to be able to understand a movie character.

reply

I thought she was wonderful.
