Is iMDB "fixing" the score?

Right now it has a 9.5. You can get the distribution here:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9140554/ratings/?ref_=tt_ov_rt

It's true that it has been less than half a day since it was released, but there's (allegedly) almost 3000 votes. According to iMDB, only 5 people in the whole world scored it with a 5. Only 16 people in the whole world scored it with a 6. And only 30 people in the whole world scored it with a 7.

No way.

The type of person who would rate this less than 8 would likely not be the type of person watching it on release.

It would stand to reason that anyone watching it on release AND compelled to spend time on imdb to rate it are going to be the most avid fans. It would also stand to reason that those would also rate it highly due to that.

The usual suspects on youtube and twitter are raking it over the coals. With the most common complaint being "boring".

reply

Same criticism I remember from the initial release of The Phantom Menace. The modern viewer wants to see ACTION. They have no patience for storytelling, world building, and exposition. MIDICHLORIAINS!!!11!!!1!1!

It's all so very boring to them.

reply

Normally I agree, but these are Marvel Superhero shows. They should be pretty action packed.

reply

You have a good point there.

Man, Trump really did have a terrible impact on society. Everything we don't like and disagree with is fake now.

reply

Nah, it's always been that way. The old imdb boards will filled with these sorts of posts, well before Trump.

"Everyone hated a movie I liked. It must be manipulation!"
"Everyone liked a movie I hated. It must be paid propaganda!"

Also, the claims exist just as extensively on the other side of the political spectrum. "Everyone down voted this movie because they hate women/gays/trans/blacks." To them, it couldn't possibly be because the movie is actually bad.

We see the same in all aspects of society. I used to day trade extensively and the groups I socialized in always believed that when they had a bad trade it was always because of some sort of market manipulation specifically against them.

"The price is being suppressed!"
"They're artificially inflating the price to liquidate shorts!"
or whatever.

I can likely go on all day. But it's always been there and the examples are legion.

reply

I don't think you know what the word example actually means. You're literally just making statements up.

in has a 4.3 rating on letterboxd.

i just finished watching e1, & thought it was quite good.

reply

Rating manipulation is a thing. Check Gully (2019).

reply

How the hell does it have a 1.2? I haven't seen the movie, but the trailer looks great.

reply

Don't know. On movie's board here is discussed further.

reply

Not IMDB, but the studio, and they have been doing this sort of thing for a long long time. THose 10s of millions they spend on advertising? This is part of it - schills to inflate the IMDB rating.

reply

Can't you be content with your own opinion? It's entertainment. It is NOT a competition. Not to mention this genre is complete fiction (fairytales for teenagers would be the best description.) The problems you are going to face in your life will be far removed from this crap.
In short, grow up.
