When people keep repeating that it was shot to look like a single take


Did you watch the movie? Because the screen clearly goes black at one point. So no, it wasn't.

They needed that blackout period to skip ahead time-wise. Otherwise it wouldn't have made sense that the movie took place in real time yet managed to go from evening to night and then morning all in the span of two hours.

I disagree. They could have slowly dollied in to his body on the floor and slowly changed the lighting to be darker as the dolly moved closer and closer to him.

This is exactly what I was coming here to post! I am glad I am not the only one to say something about this, because it felt like everyone was gaslighting me in the media. “Birdman” was made to look like a continuous take, but not only did “1917” go to black, there was a time jump at that point of several hours. I guess it just doesn’t sound as cool to say it was made to look like it was all two shots instead of one?
