Not something you can squeeze in a trilogy though. Too many back-stories and an giant cast of characters.

Also evil made Morgoth black and that's not something they would dare to show on screen nowadays...

Surprised they didn't sign off on a Silmarillion movie or even a television series after the Hobbit movies made a killing.

The Silmarillion is too long for a movie, but it would have been perfect for the kind of high-budget, multi-episode, multi-season format that Amazon has chosen for this series.

It'll never be shot. The Silmarillion isn't suitable for adaptation to a movie format, not with the chief heroes being multiple generations of (mostly) elves, all taking it in turn to fight the unstoppable Morgoth and getting their asses beat.

One of the big reasons the LOTR trilogy was so popular was that it had likable, relatable, sympathetic hobbit heroes, Tokien didn't even try to make the reader see his world from the POV of an elf-lord or a wizard. But the Silmarillion is almost entirely lacking in likable, relatable, mortal heroes... I mean there's Beren, but being mortal, he only lasted for a few years out of the whole multi-generational saga.
