Are you planning on seeing this?

The reviews are pretty good so far and it looks like it might be fun. I might go see it this weekend.

reply

After work tomorrow. That gives me all weekend to fish and do house stuff.

IMDb score is only 4.7 as of now I think.

I might still see it, but only if it's maybe on-demand/catch a glimpse of it/etc.

I wouldn't really want to pay to see it personally -- so maybe if someone else offers or etc. I might.

Don't mean that in a bad way either -- just don't really go to the theaters much anyways, but yeah...

It is way better than its imdb score. I think people who haven't even seen the movie are voting it down because it is Dora. I saw it today and it is really fun and enjoyable. Personally, I rated it a 9/10.

reply

Yeah, that's true. Dora the original show/cartoon is poorly rated on IMDb for some reasons, so maybe it's just the same thing happening to the movie too.

It doesn't look like a bad movie at all or anything like that, so I'll definitely consider it as something watchable.

It’s gone up to 5.4 on good ol’ IMDb. Note: it was in the 4’s before the movie was even released. (Not sketchy at all!)

However, the movie’s critic and audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is considerably more impressive (82% and 89% respectively - hail verified reviews!). Most of the reviews on Metacritic are also positive.

So its unreliable IMDb rating aside, clearly this movie is winning over most viewers. Now who can say they saw this coming? Cool! :D It’s a pleasant surprise.

reply

Yeah, it went up. It's still new, so the scores will jump around possibly until they reach more of an "equilibrium" of sorts.

"IMDb score is only 4.7 as of now I think."

That's what moviechat says, but it's always out of date.
Imdb is 5.8 and rising. That's only 1400 votes, a third are 1 & 10* outliers.

i saw that it's received reasonably good reviews, & would like to see it. it looks like fun.
but i am an almost 50 year old man.
& i feel like there is no way i can see this film in a theatre without looking very very sad & creepy.
perhaps i could hire someone's 9 yr old kid to pose as my daughter for the sake of optics. but the act of doing that would almost certainly be far more sad & creepy than going to see the movie by myself.
so i'll probably just go see the 'scary stories...' film instead.

reply

I'm a 39 year old man and I went and saw it today by myself. No one said anything or gave me any weird looks, so I think you should be ok to go see it. If you are concerned, try to pick a time when a lot of people won't be there. I went for an 11 am showing and it wasn't too crowded.

reply

oh, i'm sure no one would care. i just feel this silly shame about going to see a movie like this by myself.

but i probably will stamp down my pride & catch it. there's a discount theatre down the street that is almost always empty during weekday matinees, so i'll probably duck in to see it one day this week. i just know i'm going to feel very silly when i go to scan my ticket with the usher, lol.

reply

Im 51, saw it opening night at the 9:30ish showing. Only other people in the theater were about 6 teenager girls. If concerned about seeing a kids movie consider going to a later showing when less of a chance for kids to be in the theater.

I liked the movie (never watched the cartoon series before).

reply

for the record, i did go to see it yesterday afternoon, & i enjoyed it quite a bit!
boo to the dad who let his 6yr son narrate almost all the film very loudly, though.

I'm 70, & apart from the characters being teens, this is my kind of movie. Always love the action adventure movies, especially when searching for treasure is involved. So, keep in mind that life is not a dress rehearsal. Do what you want to do before it is too late. You will be a good role model empowering others to do the same.

Dora is beautiful
