What if someone has a cough or a cold?

They'd have to stay in that little hole under the mattress for days on end, if the human cough and sneeze is enough to attract the monsters! I think this alone would've signalled the end of the human species.

reply

Yes, flatulence also would be a problem.

reply

A damn sneeze could kill ya!

reply

If you feel a sneeze coming, maybe you could muffle the sound like sneezing into something, like a pillow or tissue or something. I'm sure they would have a way to muffle it somehow. One of the things I liked most about the movie is it shows the meticulous effort of trying to stay alive. Feels like the family has practiced these things through great practice.

Have a short review of this one here if anyone is interested-https://youtu.be/k42HUCd0zzM

I was thinking more of coughs. I can make my sneezes very quiet indeed, but coughs for me are louder, they need to be to be effective.

reply

I was thinking sneezing while out and about could kill you. I'm great at muffling them, but it still can be heard, then there's my friend who never sneezes just once. It's always at least 5 sneezes in a row maybe more. All that stress of keeping quiet would kill me alone.

reply

Sneezing can be prevented but coughing not so much. I've had coughing fits and can't keep quiet when doing it.

reply

Actually snoring would have been a bigger issue.... Not sure how the daughter falls asleep out in the open many times

reply

I was thinking the same thing and then thought the mind/body would control your breathing while asleep as a "survival mechanism."

Admittedly, I know very little about snoring lol

reply

Yes, this movie requires some serious suspension of disbelief.

reply

Agreed. Though I suppose if they all lived next to the waterfalls, they might be able to survive - but seriously, this is a horrible premise for a film.

You have blind creatures who kill anything that moves.
Unless they are literally indestructible, like the creature in 'Life', it should be easy to make a trap for them with loud speakers - and use a nuke or something.

I suppose, however - that this film may occur in an alternative reality where our means of defense are non-existent. Even then, what about the small animals roaming around? How is it that they've managed to survive for so long, given just how these creatures destroy anything that makes a peek sound?

And wait, now that I've just finished watching this film, it turns out these creatures are not indestructible - how are they around at all? Dumb, dumb, dumb premise.

reply

I mean, the father already figured out that the creatures go by sound. Why didn't he try putting up speakers with different frequencies at least one of those 470-something days?

reply

B/c trial and error doesn't work if you're dead after the first trial.

reply

As does nearly every movie ever made.

reply

Some more than others.

reply

What if someone went to pee? Or flushed the toilet?

reply

I am sure many people were killed because of just that.

reply

Your cough wouldn't last long.

reply

Suspension of disbelief has to be heightened for this film but if this were the case I bet we as humans would find ways to survive. My biggest takeaway from this film is that children will always be little a-holes no matter the situation lol.
