The showrunners don't understand the character...

I was optimistic about Season 2...I really was. I knew they weren't going to do another story involving Frank's past, thank God, but that was a given. Really, Season 1 shouldn't have been about his past either...what they covered in Daredevil Season 2 was sufficient.

Anyway, this season still suffers from one of the same major problems that the first one did..HE'S NOT PUNISHING ANYONE! Yeah, he's been beating a few people up, but the only people's he's killed were in self-defense. Where is the Punisher who actually GOES and SEEKS OUT criminals to kill? That's the Punisher I know and love. He should've gunned down all those Russians at the end of episode 5 (that's as far as I've gotten)!

reply

It’s called setting up a story. Even in the comics the punisher spends a lot of time DEFENDING himself.

I don’t know if this is troll post but seriously, what a petty complaint that doesn’t make sense.

reply

Yes, he spends time defending himself, but also he is proactive in seeking out criminals to kill. He's not on this show.

Honesty, it doesn't even feel like the same character as in Daredevil Season 2.

reply

Just finished. Binged the entire season. Where's my medal?

He Punishes plenty of people. I don't expect any Marvel show will remain on netflix and expect to hear a cancellation announcement in the next few weeks.

reply

Hmm...so you expect the Punisher to be like a killer grizzly on a rampage?
If all the guy does is grunt and slaughter than there wouldn't be any reason to look forward to his grunting and slaughtering... or any reason to root for him.
They have to make him human ...more then a mindless killing machine or who cares?

And I don't know about you but I don't think a lot of those guys he beat to a bloody pulp are ever getting back up again. I don't see a lot of mercy when the wrong guys hit his radar..

But you require what? More randomness? No motivation ?
The writers here may not be as good as Dare Devil but Jon Bernthal's performance knocks it out of the park.

I'm not enjoying season 2 that much, there was way too much psychological bs, i dont care about Billy Russo's fucked up mind, he is suppose to be the villain here, stop making us feeling empathy for him because of what happened to him.

I am up to episode 7 and this feels like anti war propaganda, this is not the Punisher, not at all, this is some PG written bullshit. I got so sick of watching all the therapy scenes i started to skip them.

Thought-provoking mumbo jumbo that insults my un-PC self is the last thing I want! So, when one’s reactionary views are offended, what does said reactionary immediately cry out? “PC! SJW! Libtard Hollywood propaganda!”

Ok. But um, is this too PC for ya, bro?...

“If Frank Castle means to you somebody who stands for what he believes in and is willing to accept the consequences of those beliefs, whether right or wrong, I’m with you. If what he stands for is a disregarding of the law and setting vigilante action above the law, then [we] would disagree.”

And....

“In a way, it’s as offensive as putting a Confederate flag on a government building. My point of view is, the Punisher is an anti-hero, someone we might root for while remembering he’s also an outlaw and criminal. If an officer of the law, representing the justice system puts a criminal’s symbol on his police car, or shares challenge coins honoring a criminal he or she is making a very ill-advised statement about their understanding of the law.”

Who the hell said this PC nonsense that triggers ya? Only the co-creator of the Punisher himself. And he has notably expressed his annoyance and displeasure with the pro-war right-wingers who’ve tried to make the Punisher their own. Oh, I guess you understand his creation better than him? Or let me guess, he became another one of the big bad PC Hollywood ones by saying rational things? Paid? Ugh...

Speaking of getting offending by not being Neanderthally violent enough for me, this new season fittingly made the villains of the show the exact kind of despicable people that have embraced the Punisher — many who are known for constantly decrying PC online and call anything that hurts their views PC, pride themselves as patriots (muh 1st amendment rights), want to spill blood, and the only kind of propaganda that works for them is the totalitarian type (alt-right jackoffs). Boo hoo. Stick to state news tv Fox. You’ll get all the good pro-war and legit fear-mongering you can possibly want.

Ummmm - have you seen the final scene of the season?

reply

That WAS FUCKING AWESOME.

reply

Yeah, Frank knows he is what he is..

reply

He really came to terms with himself

reply

No, I haven't....I'm six episodes in. You mean to tell me I have to wait until the final scene of the SECOND season to see the character from Daredevil Season 2?

reply

Just watch it...

reply

Agree, do enjoy this season though, but its not really the punisher, its more like one of those action movies where an ex-army marine guy saves people.

reply

I don't object to people liking the show...if you like it, fine, but it doesn't feel like the Punisher comics from ANY era.

reply

"Where is the Punisher who actually GOES and SEEKS OUT criminals to kill?"

Well, there's the last 20 seconds of episode 13... LOL. But yeah, I agree.

Despite a lacklustre response, I think this season still gets over-rated by fans who WANT it to be good. Outside of the first few episodes in the bar, the police station etc it was pretty awful.
