Disappointing end

For me, the first half of the movie was pretty good, but mostly building up anticipation, and then when the twists start occurring, I sort of felt cheated. I mean they were fine, I guess, but it all just felt like they'd had the idea for two different movies and just smashed them together.

Still worth it for the great acting, but I felt the ending could have been better written.

Yes, I concur. The twist is a bit 'too little, too late'.

It's a case of "I did NOT see that coming!" followed immediately by "And this is critical to the plot because why?". It's a nice-to-know moment, but in the grand scheme didn't make a difference to the main story.

I was actually quite surprised by the twist, because I thought it was so obvious that they wouldn't use it. The 'conman gets conned' storyline is pretty hackneyed. Although I certainly did not guess the reason why Betty did it.

The reveal that she was 'conning' him wasn't the twist... the previews pretty much gave that plot point away.

The twist is the personal connection that she has to him... the reason that she chose him particularly. We don't see that coming, but I didn't think it added much to the story anyway. It could just as easily been left out.

reply

If it had been cut out, we wouldn't have any idea why she was conning him and the whole thing would be meaningless. It's essential.

I agree, the last half-hour is really clunky, exposition overload. Really enjoyed it up until then.

I found the whole movie to be disappointing.
From previous post:
"This is a terribly bland movie. I really thought it would be a zig zagging and even mean movie, with fast paced twists and tricky characters. It was the opposite of that. You think it's going to be about extremely clever people one-upping each other etc. Nope. You can tell when the writer's are pleased with themselves but it's just them. I do not recommend it at all. 4/10"

I love the actors. I was excited to see this. One of the biggest let downs of that year.

it was okay....the twist of Lilly being the one who was a good liar after all was something I expected to happen from a little before their trip. It was a decent film, some of the twists in their lives were remotely interesting. The most unexpected thing for me was that the driver of the mystery car was her "grands."

I figured it was a reverse con from the start. Otherwise the story is too awful. The trouble is that they did not properly set up the rest of what they revealed.

The f** cringe scene with the gays, ffs, netflix is forcing gays everywhere.
