Quite excited for this show, however, it´s going to take a loot to make it good, and so little to make it unwatchable.

I am really, truly hoping they´ll make it great. I love the books and the game (even though I´ve only played the last one).

If they hit it right on the spot we may have a GoT successor here.

What gives me some piece of mind is the fact that so many fantasy TV shows are coming up thanks to GoT, perhaps if this one doesn't work another one will.

Pretty excited about this. I think Cavill is a decent actor so he can probably pull it off. I am a big fan of both the books and games, but I think I will have the most trouble with adapting to his voice. I played the game first and then read the books so even when I was reading I was used to that distinct voice from the games. I think the other major castings are good too, from the looks of it, as I don't know anything they have been in.

I just wish they would have ordered a few more episodes. 8 seems a bit short, but if it is successful they will probably have more for the next season. I have really high hopes!

reply

I think the first season will be mostly based on the earlier stories (which later made up the first book), so it's OK.
As long as it is good.

They just couldn't help but fuck up the casting could they? First there's a shit storm over Ciri being black, and Netflix decides "ok fine. no". And then the fans rejoice. Now Yenn is half Indian? And in her early 20's?! And Fringilla Vigo is Zimbabwean? Just what in the fuck is wrong with these people? Casting Ciri as white doesn't give them a free pass to fuck up the rest of the casting. Fuck man I was really looking forward to this. Breaks my heart to see them tarnish this franchise. Hopefully we can get some film adaptions later on to rectify this bullshit.

I'm a black female. I'm also for minorities getting as many opportunities in the film industry as their white counterparts. However, a black actress playing a Polish medieval woman is a hard pill to swallow. I haven't read the books, nor played any of the games. So I don't know if Fringilla or Ciri are suppose to be magical creatures. If they are, then it would make more sense. If they're not, then I don't know if I can image it being Poland in the Middle Ages.

reply

You don't have to imagine Black people in Medieval Europe because they were actually there. It is an indisputable, proven, scientific fact. There's evidence in historical documents, writing, art, sculptures, and skeletal remains. Black people are not historically inaccurate. Black people have always existed, and yes, they lived in Medieval Poland and many other countries.

However, you do have to imagine dragons, giant toads, and potatoes since those things were definitely not in Medieval Poland. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

reply

The casting so far has been like a slap in the face to the people who have not only played the games, but read the books as well. The source material is so detailed and rich... Why are they intentionally trying to ruin this?

reply

HISTORY is so detailed and rich. Cooler than any fantasy series.

Were sub-Saharan African people present in medieval Europe? Despite their glaring absence from many histories, both popular and academic, they were. They came as traders, as explorers, as warriors, or—for those we only know by the archaeological record—for many reasons that we will never know. One in particular came as a king.

reply

I'm wondering what is wrong with you if you think an African or Half-Indian actress would "tarnish" a childish fantasy series with dragons and giant toads. I mean, what if she were full Indian? Would you don riot gear and take to the streets? I think you might be racist, bro.

What is the problem anyway? It is a well-documented fact that there were Black people in Medieval Europe, even ancient Europe. However, if the story has magical elements including sorcery, dragons, and monsters, then it's not grounded in reality to begin with so why does it even matter what skin color the actors have? It's fantasy, they can do whatever they want. The main character could have green skin like Shrek for all I care.

You're writing the show off, and you haven't even seen it. If it ends up being good, then appealing to a wider audience will lengthen its run. No matter what happens, you can always enjoy the books and games. I have no experience with either, but the show sounds interesting. I'm keeping an open mind. So if you can't enjoy a show if the cast isn't all white, then that doesn't sound like anybody's problem except yours.

Do you really think that anyone gives a shit of being branded a racist anymore? It's 2018. That ship has sailed. If you haven't been accused of being a racist by now you're probably a ghost.

What does black people in Europe during the middle ages have to do with changing a fucking white woman into a black woman? Tell me just how in the world you came to that conclusion. There were also dwarves in the middle ages too. Why not cast yenn as a dwarf? Doesn't that make sense?

I'm very happy it takes so little to entertain you though. Truly. I wish I had the shallow depth of intrigue that you do. It would make life all the more interesting for me. Unfortunatley, when I want to watch an adaptation of the witcher, I'm not looking to watch shrek. Call me picky. And yes. They can do whatever they want to do. Just o can tell them to go to hell on a handbasket for doing it.

Seriously, where do you get this image in your head that being diverse means appealing to a wider audience? Anyone that has access to netflix has the ability to enjoy it. DIidd the lack of diversity do anything to hurt game of thrones? Just what on earth makes you think "all white cast = minorities won't show interest"? As if the only way a minority can enjoy anything if they include a member of their race? Do you really think thats how they decide to watch tv? I think you might be racist bro.

reply

I'm 41 and I've never in my life been accused of being racist, because I'm not.

You, though, you are a race-baiting troll who ALWAYS POSTS ABOUT RACE AND WHINES ABOUT NON-WHITE ACTORS ALL OVER THIS WEBSITE.

About all I ever see you do here on MovieChat is complaining about non-white people!!!

I'll make sure to point this out to the one you replied to, because obviously you are not open or honest about your history of race-baiting on this website. Hell, if you didn't think it was race-baiting, you'd probably be proud to explain your crusade here on MovieChat, but obviously this is not the case. That just proves you KNOW you're a race-baiting troll.

reply

I've explained it to you before, but you just ignore it. No time doing it again. Do what you must just as I will. You've relinquished any and all worth to have a civil discussion with. All you do is follow me around like a sad lost puppy dog. I bet I'm probably in one of your bookmarks aren't i? Probably do a weekly checkup on my posting history to see what new stuff i posted. I feel so sorry for you, but at least I provide some semblance of entertainment is your soulless, vapid, empty life.

reply

not-a-virus has made it a permanent crusade to complain about non-white people all over MovieChat, it's all I see him do and he's been doing it from the beginning.

reply

Not enough diversity.

reply

You gonna have to explain this.
