Best Star Trek ever.

This has to be the best Star Trek ever made. Puts to shame TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, and all the movies from any of the series. I like the fact they have a woman of color as the main character and that men are finally not the most important people on the show. The only thing that I find upsetting is that Michael's character isn't doing anything to represent the LGBTQ+ community. It really is shameful that CBS would be so dismissive of an entire minority group. I hope they fix this so that I don't have to organize a boycott due to their inability to be inclusive of all groups that I find important.

I love everything about the show, though. I would give it a 10/10, but until they address the lack of LGBTQ+ characters/story lines, I am going to have to give it a 2/10.

I can't agree with you there. Why was the main character, a female, given a man's name? The message is that for a woman to be strong, she needs to be masculine. That's misogyny! If they really wanted to go for gender equality, they would have named the male captain "Jennifer" or "Mary" instead of "Gabriel". And why does he have a Spanish name but he is not played by a Mexican actor? Missed opportunity there!

Also, Game of Thrones showed us that you can have popular dwarf characters. Why isn't there a single dwarf in the crew of Discovery? Outrageous.

Why should he be played by a Mexican actor if he has a Spanish name?! He could easily be of Spanish (European) descend and not of Mexican. That being said he doesn't look exactly Spanish either, but it is passable.

Only Bryan Fuller knows the answer to that one. It's apparently his "signature" thing to write women with traditionally masculine names... something I once thought was fun to do as a teenage short story writer. I admit it did kind of come off sounding like he needs to pretend female characters are male before he's able to write a compelling lead, but to be fair, I'm not in the guy's head and I doubt anyone else here is. Who knows what the real answer to that one is.

Wow, you're pointing out stuff I didn't even notice or think about. I thought I was woke, but now I am starting to question if I even got out of my bed of privilege. Sigh. You are 100% correct on all accounts. This show is turning out to be very problematic and exclusionary. I am about to start a petition and come up with a few good hashtags.
