Is Ruth in love with Marty?

When she killed her uncle's and told Marty "I couldn't have them kill you" then laid in his arms crying i couldn't help but think thats the case.

Or is it she sees him a father shes always wanted whos treated her with respect and gave her a positive purpose?

reply

I took it as she looks at him as someone who respects her and or a father figure. Not to mention Marty’s wife has treated her well

reply

her papa is more or less a lizard, she aspires to a more mammalian father-daughter relationship.

my impression is she does love him...as I'm only halfway through season 2 ...I feel she's got no one to give her love back and Marty is someone who she gets attention from in this warped partnership.

Ruth is clearly very conflicted when it comes to her attitude towards Marty. She's very all over the place with her scumbag father in the mix. There really hasn't been anything to suggest she's "in love" with Marty although she has displayed a degree of conflicted affection & indignation towards Marty.

reply

Yeah, I think he's a surrogate father figure. In season two it becomes pretty clear, I think.

reply

It was a big deal for her when they invited her to the table for breakfast.

reply

No, it's obvious she is not "in love" with him. Marty and Wendy were just the first people to treat her with kindness, and she was impressed by their [comparatively more functional] family dynamics. She'd never seen a parent truly care about their child before.

Well after Season 2 i can tell shes not in love with him, but when i made this topic after just seeing S1 she kinda gave off that vibe a little. But Season 2 they made it very clear thats not the case and she more or less views him as a surrogate father figure and a family she wishes hers was like.
