She looks like she is in her 60's!
She looks a decade older than her husband and too old to be the mother of those kids, the young boy especially.
I agree. Especially when you're pairing her up with someone who has always had a boyish look his entire life. On top of the fact that she really is 5 yrs older than Bateman in real life. So it's an interesting choice to cast her.

Probably because you are used to being spoonfed a particular ideal when it comes to women in roles and significantly older leading male actors being paired with much younger actresses.
Their pairing hardly defies credulity. There are much more handsome men than Bateman running around with much uglier women than Linney here in the real world - especially a couple of a similar age who married when they were younger.
I never said that she was too unattractive for Bateman. But her being a mother of a 12y.o. boy really bothered me in the first season.
After three seasons, and a rewatch, I got used to it already.
This. Exactly.
The advertising / movie industries have a lot to answer for that.
Not sure if she looks older, but she definitely looked 20 years older than her brother, so that was unrealistic

That can happen though, if she was an early child and he was a late one.
Could also explain why her brother had a mental problem. He would have been a child of a much older mother which would have increased the odds of him not being normal which he clearly wasn't... hell given the age difference dear old mom might have been thinking she couldn't have kids anymore and drinking like a fish which could have also caused him to have some mental problem if she was drinking a lot when she was pregnant but didnt' realize it.

I love Laura Linney for the part Wendy. She plays it really well. It doesn’t help that Jason Bateman is younger than her plus looks younger for his own age.
