First trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom just came out

Thoughts? Colin Trevorrow is still writing it but J.A. Bayona (The Impossible, The Orphanage, A Monster Calls) is the director now. I'm hoping he's a major improvement over Colin. I thought Jurassic World 1 was okay but it could've been a lot better. Many scenes felt like "remixed" versions of Jurassic Park.

I thought it looked terrible. I had hopes that with a new director it would be better, but from looking at the trailer, it just looks like JW again, which I hated. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have no chemistry. Colin Trevorrow is writing the script and I hate to say this, but I wish he wasn't involved in this movie at all. It just looks dumb and that can be good fun sometimes, but the main characters are so poorly written, they're just boring to watch especially when they are working off one another. It's almost like the two main actors hate each other or something.

I think I agree there. Chris has been better in other work. I don't find him very interesting in these JW movies. Does anyone even remember (without Googling) what his character's name is? Or Bryce Dallas Howard's character? They appear to be doing a trilogy out of this and I don't even know them the way I know Dr. Ellie Sattler and Alan Grant.

I'm not really a big fan either. I'm actually glad he was taken off of Star Wars Episode 9, and I hope they are not using his script (but I'm afraid they are). And just like comparing JP1 vs. Jurassic World, can anyone remember great lines from Jurassic World? I can't either.

JP1 still quoted all the time and even used in memes. And memes are awesome.

reply

There are no memorable lines from the film, it was just a soulless movie that was supposed to look "cool" in trailers for the easy to please audiences that exist today who thought JW was lots of fun.

reply

To my recollection, Pratt's character's name is Owen and BDH's character is named Claire. Full disclosure though, I did just rewatch the movie a couple of months ago.

I'd agree that these characters aren't nearly as strong as Dr. Grant and Ellie Sattler, but the first JP movie sets a really high bar in all respects. Very few movies will ever reach that level.

While I don't think that JW is anywhere near as good as JP, I do think that it's a fun film and is the clear #2 in the franchise.

It strikes me as a trailer that they put together with the little bit of finished footage that they have.

Judging purely from the trailer I think the storyline seems weak, which is disappointing. It looks like they might make the same mistake that they made with The Lost World: follow up a relatively thoughtful, plot-driven film with a sequel that is almost pure action.

As someone who has been saying for a while that the way to keep this franchise relevant is through creative and engaging plots, I can't say that I love what they seem to be doing here.

With all that said, I saw someone on another forum say that what is in the trailer is only supposed to represent the first hour of the movie. If that's the case, and the plot is actually richer than the trailer would have us believe, it makes me feel better.

P.S. I came here expecting to find a pretty active thread about the trailer. I'm surprised to only find a few posts.

That's what I read too on Reddit. Something about there being a twist, and that the trailer isn't showing it. So there might be story surprises ahead.

And I too was expecting more responses for this trailer. On IMDB's Facebook page, there are 18k views and hundreds of responses already after being up for 20 hours. True, many of the responses are more like drive-by Youtube comments such as "Looks great!" and "Can't wait, loved Jurassic World!!"

But still, I was hoping there'd be more responses over here. I had problems with Jurassic World 1, but it was still a major movie to come out that year, and I'm sure this movie will set some records too. I guess many still don't know about MovieChat yet.

reply

Yeah, this kind of response just shows you that MovieChat still has a long way to go in terms of attracting a large user base. It remains to be seen exactly how popular this site is going to end up being.

I enjoyed the scene in the courtroom. Imagine all the lawsuits, etc ahah that's the real horror

reply

They say everything in the trailer is only from the first hour. But it seems to be blowing up. Makes me wonder if they'll repeat The Lost World in having it end on the mainland, but a longer sequence this time.

CGI looked dire. And I don't get the whole 'we made it' engineered dinosaur aspect. That was in the last one...
