I thought this was pretty decent.

I've never played the game and I went into this knowing it's PG-13 and basically a kid friendly horror movie, I also saw quite a few people online saying this movie is awful (couple that with the poor critical reception). So yeah, very low expectations.

Decent production values on display here and most importantly I found the story quite interesting, many people are saying this is a movie for fans of the game but I think my ignorance helped here as if I knew how this would all play out it then it would have lost an edge (that's assuming the story in this movie is the same as the games).

The acting is pretty good from most involved. Oh and the cop (Vanessa played by Elizabeth Lail) is hot.

Nothing special but an alright flick when you come to terms with the fact it's tame due to it's target audience largely being children/young teens.

same here. I expected a childrens' "horror" movie and got basically that. it was maybe a little bit slow paced would be my only negative, and maybe it wasn't fantastic or anything but it was good enough for a kids movie. my nephews definitely liked it.

reply

Pleasantly surprised. Never played the game either but it was pretty good. For my taste amping up the horror and the comedy with an R rating would have made it awesome, but it’s good as is.

It’s funny. These days most movies are utter garbage. It’s like Hollywood forgot how to tell stories. Any other decade this would probably be okay but forgettable.

As for the critics—come on: lol. They’re bought and sold for. They give Disney and Star Wars rave reviews because of payola. They’ve made themselves meaningless. If Five Nights had an interracial couple, a trans character, and demonized Christianity or Capitalism or the West, it’d be “certified fresh.”

reply

Definitely disagree it’s ‘good as is’. There’s barely any horror or comedy in this film and what little there is certainly isn’t good.

Also if Disney are paying critics for positive reviews did they just not bother doing it for The Rise of Skywalker, Eternals, Ant-Man 3 and Secret Invasion as they’re all rotten and far from ‘certified fresh’

THEN YOU DON'T AGREE.🤔

reply

I didn't mind it at all.

Went in - never played the game, loved Willy's Wonderland and thought Josh Hutcherson had the acting skills of a potato.

You don't need to know anything about the game, it was different enough from Willy's and Hutcherson was fine.

I took my little brother and sister to see this and was pleasantly surprised by it. Fun movie

I saw it about a week ago, and don't know anything about the subject. I enjoyed the movie but I don't think it will become a cult classic or anything.

I finally saw it tonight with my youngest two boys (My oldest son and his girlfriend saw it Sunday).

All my boys liked it. On the ride home, my middle son was explaining how the movie was pretty much straight from the FNAF books (I think the term he used was "lore"). He and my oldest son could watch the movie and understand it with that knowledge.

I'm not at all familiar with the "FNAF universe," but I still enjoyed the movie also. I was so impressed with the child actor(s)...and the actress who played Vanessa was good also, I thought. While all of us liked the Mario movie better than FNAF, we all enjoyed it and it was so nice being back in the theater again.

Sounds like nothing woke in it?

Never heard of her. Just looked her up... man, she really married down. Seems like she could have done much better. If her career ever takes off she'll likely leave her current husband.

reply

No...my boys all said they did a good job of keeping things pretty honest and true to the books. No "hidden agendas" or anything like that.

I thought the actress who played Vanessa had a very "natural" look about her. It's very possible that she's had work done, but I couldn't tell it. She is pretty, but it's a "genuine" prettiness, for lack of a better word.

reply

I feel like IF I played any of the game(s) or was even remotely familiar with the lore, I would've enjoyed it.

But I'm not. Wanted to like it but on its own, it's just average imo.

reply

Yes, I think that's pretty understandable. It's not a movie I would have ever watched on my own...I only watched it because of my boys.

reply

Same-ish reason here. I was babysitting my neighbour's kids & her teen son invited a few friends and they streamed it.

Honestly, they were having fun watching it. Good on 'em.

I like how it's a bridge for different generations. I took my little kid to see this because he was begging me, but I enjoyed being able to tell him about Chuck E Cheese. LOL!
