Am I the only one who was bored for half the movie?

The first installment wasn't exactly Citizen Kane but its story was intriguing enough. This one had virtually zero plot and Keanu Reeves' acting couldn't carry the dramatic scenes. Action was a 10, however.

“Am I the” — NO. Billions of people in the world; some are guaranteed to feel the way u do. But bored just cuz bored viewers aside, funny how some fans of the first Wick like the OP claim that Chapter 2 had no story, yet others criticize the 1st film for also being devoid of a “real plot.” So, what gives? Lmao. Hey, they’re 2 freaking revenge stories! Now although the Wick films are rightfully being held in higher regard than most straightforward action films, at the end of the day ACTION is the main course. Not Citizen Kane? And lemme guess… also not The Godfather, Lawrence of Arabia, and all the almighty films that oh-so-expert film watchers love to bring up whenever criticizing the quality of any film? Boring.

That said, even though this series may never be a contender for best screenplay (so what), the films have been anything but standard. The action is obvs exceptional, but everything from the direction to the cinematography is top-tier. That’s right. The action alone not enough to save the film for you? Well you may find the sequel’s story lacks merit (it doesn’t), but in terms of overall craftsmanship, goddamn it was expertly-crafted like the first.

But back to no story... heh. Well I (and many more) say that Chapter 2 not only had bigger stakes, but it gave Wick a legitimate reason to return. Where to take things after the first film? Made sense to bring Wick here. So yes, I thought the film had an interesting story — and one that was well-told. Moreover, things started to feel bigger in every way with this sequel; it no longer felt like a simple revenge story. Sure some of it, particularly the first act, is slow. But you know what? I loved it. It had effective, proper character-development and even world-building. Ya disagree? Many don’t.

In any event, no matter how exciting, inventive, brilliant etc. any film may be in the eyes of many, of course not everyone will be impressed. But to the naysayers, you're entitled to your wrong opinion! :D

Update: lol at some taking that last part serious in their own way. (Ahh, and I wrote that in the early years of MovieChat before the Fandom Menace… a nice way to describe the Broflake reich… completely took over.) Oh, that’s right! I’m editing this post+ updating some things several years later cuz clearly the V7’s of the world (😉) reacted to it like I was expecting. :D Now usual naysayers notwithstanding, man… to see the MASTERFULLY-MADE John Wick series become the behemoth it has, is just fantastic. (Detractors are thankfully in the minority.) Helluva franchise.

And you good sir are entitled to your wrong opinion also. :D

Oh, hey there V. You know, believe it or not I expected you to drop on this, if you will. And no, not just because that last part in my previous post was added to basically evoke a predictable response from someone, hehe. But yes, expected you specifically. :D

Anyway, it took some years but finally someone took the minor bait! (Though I was hoping its not-so-seriousness could be seen, ya know? Lol.) With that outta the way, well right back at you, sir! Now comparisons to the first film aside, Chapter 2 sure seemed to satisfied plenty of folks overall. Nah? It’s alright, V. The unc00l majority (fond of all the awesome sequels) are entitled to their correct opinion. ☺️ Proceed now

Indeed the COOL majority are. Good day to you, sir. :)

No, you were not the only one. Bored and dismayed during most of this dud. Even the action scenes (or shooter video-game inspired scenes) gave me nothing. Reeves also back to being the horribly bad actor he can be.

Liked the first one well enough, but this one was terrible.

Unfortunately the actors with the most lines were the worst actors. Leguizamo, mcshane, fishburne, the brother of the first movies villian, and the concierge guy had very little parts. Small parts but those were the best actors in the movie. And instead we got the sister who had a huge monologue that was visual NyQuil. And her brother, the guy who played the main bad guy, was a huge drop down from the actor who played the villain last time. The action was good, but Keanu must be interacting with good actors. Like willem Defoe and Ian mcshane and John leguizamo. Otherwise it can be sleep inducing when there isn't shooting.

Also, hate to say it, but the musician common is exactly NOT who you should put in a scene with Keanu reeves. Keanu is dynamite when he gets to interact with another great actor. Common cannot act. He is worse than most of the extras and feels like that time Gavin rossdale was in Constantine. Just dreadful. Something about Keanu reeves reveals great actors to be even greater, but also shows huge flaws in subpar performances.

Story is stupid.
Action is repetitive.
Reeves's acting is atrocious.

No I did not like this one too much. ;)

reply

just like the first one then

I enjoyed the first movie so I decided to watch the DVD for the sequel. I lasted 15 minutes and was bored the entire time. It seemed like a generic action flick and the plot felt forced. No originality. I hated the music. It was too dark so I was straining my eyes. I just came here to see if the movie might improve later. I guess it doesn't.

Up until he comes with the marker the movie is slow but it does pick up in action. All in all a good movie

reply

No, not the only one. The action is cartoonish and repetitive. Wick kills too fast and too effortlessly. It seems fake and without merit. Literal headshot overkill.

I liked them both, the pacing, story and music were all ace for me! ;) Just remember to take if for what it is! :D
