Full on woke.

Okay, it was always guilty of giving women too much power... but now we get the token black in the show... good god it's damn good it is ending the next season would have likely had trannies with swords running around.

I just started watching the final season so I'm disappointed about the priest who was not in the books. It looks like Netflix added the character for diversity, equity and inclusion. I'm concerned about the priest's troubled past and his gambling habit. There was a North African priest back in the old days BUT I don't believe there was a sub-Saharan African priest back then. Netflix might be attacking the church again. I thought their Midnight Mass show was an attack on the church. I thought people during Anglo-Saxon times lived at the foot of the cross so a troubled priest would be excommunicated and burned at the stake.

I'm more disappointed about the deaf character with sign language and subtitles. I can't stand subtitles so the inclusion of deaf people in Netflix shows/movies is annoying. I thought a deaf person would be sent to a monastery or sacrificed to the gods back in Anglo-Saxon times. I now think that a deaf character doing sign language with subtitles is a good sign that a show is WOKE. For those of you who have been living under a rock, woke shows try to promote social justice and fight racism, sexism, inequity, patriarchy and intersectionality.

Try being deaf for a month and you’ll learn to love subtitles.

reply

Deaf people can enable subtitles either on their tv or through their streaming service. I just turned on subtitles on Netflix Breaking Bad. The inclusion of characters with sign language in shows/movies is just another element of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Long may it last.

You're the idiot and most of your posts are complete nonsense. Did you even watch this show? I sat through it and was disgusted that one of my favorite shows was destroyed through racial/gender quotas. The show was based on the books but the final season did not follow the books. The sub-Saharan African priest was not in the books. They didn't have sign language back in 900 CE but they are using modern sign language. The black priest and the deaf signer did not add to the story but they were there to meet a Netflix diversity quota.

Diversity, equity and inclusion is not good. These are quotas that promote mediocrity instead of meritocracy. Instead of allowing film/show producers to pick the best people for the job, there are now quotas for inclusion of underrepresented populations. As far as I can tell, underrepresented people means everybody but white males. Race/gender quotas may be harmless in the film industry but people will die when they start using diversity quotas for surgeons, pilots, generals and other critical jobs.

I GET IT...YOU ARE A SCARED OLD WHITE GUY WHO HAS A PROBLEM WITH WOMEN AND NON WHITES IN YOUR MEDIA...NOW GO AHEAD...THROW ANOTHER NOVELLA AT ME EXPLAINING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.🙂

Did you even watch the show? Have you watched season FIVE? I asked in the thread above if you watched the show and you did not answer my question. You are a troll if you are arguing over a show that you haven't watched.

I have watched all five seasons of the Last Kingdom and the fifth season was hard to finish due to all the changes. The first four seasons were about Uhtred BUT the final season was about everybody else. I binged seasons one through four of the show but I had a problem finishing season five.

I'm over a year away from age FIFTY so I'm still middle-aged. I also would never claim ownership of media since I am just one person without an ownership stake. I also don't have a problem with women and non-whites in shows. I enjoyed the Netflix Marvel Luke Cage show since I was able to get a glimpse of inner-city life. I also like watching great black actors like Denzel Washington and the late Michael Kenneth Williams. I do want Hollyweird to be faithful to the original story.

This is a message board so my replies to you are not solely intended for your viewing. These are posts for everyone to see. I would send a direct message to you if I wanted to have a conversation with you BUT that will never happen.

It's called decolonising history, this used to be called telling lies.

There is a wokeness aspect to it yes. But Aethelflaed really did rule Mercia when her husband died and St. Benedict was black raised in Italy.

I'm just starting season 5, I hope they don't massacre his character as they did to others to pander to wokeness. St. Benedict was a revolutionary saint of the Church. There are many unCatholic things in the show that make it clear the creators are not Catholic like the multiple baptisms, the protestantisms, and wrong signing of the cross.

reply

You won't be happy then, they make Benedict a gambling priest that sells out people to pay off his debts... And get ready for the little midget priest in a wheelchair... they are trying to check all the diversity boxes this go round.

reply

"St. Benedict was black raised in Italy"

What black St. Benedict are you talking about? The one you imagined in your dreams and told the producers of this show about?

reply

I just watched episode 8. There is a scene where a group of about ten to twelve men are having dinner and FOUR of them are black (including the aforementioned priest). I just don’t get it. WHY? What goes through the head of the moron/asshole who made the decision to shoehorn three black background characters into that scene? How do they justify it to themselves? You can’t tell me it’s “blind casting” because if it were blind casting then where are the Chinese and Indian or Pakistani actors?

reply

It happens because the network or streaming service that is backing the production of the show demands it. They don't always demand specific races, instead they say minority or people of color. When they just say minority or people of color the casting director doesn't want to risk getting bitched at or fired for failing to throw in the token actors so he goes out and gets black actors because he knows that blacks will clearly be seen as minority/people of color whereas if he got an Asian or Indian actor, well they might not be dark enough or Asian enough to be clearly seen as the minority his boss asked for. The sad thing is that while the push to force this woke shit on casting might be getting some blacks parts they wouldn't have otherwise gotten it also eliminates the chances for the other minorities that simply don't look dark enough, it is not only racist against white actors but also against other minorities.

reply

That's how the blacks took over. Victimhood it to the max so by default they must be in every show else RAYCIST! Too bad no other race does that as they too have suffered from slavery (Chinese) etc. Blacks are the only race to use their own derogatory words amongst themselves as if it were a good thing or feel empowered by it... Just so bizarre if not backwards.

Ah, poor, frightened little white boy.

Among Withgar's men there is one asian, you can see him at the start of the last episode in season 5 and appears throughout. He notes he gathered men from around the world when he first arrives at Bababenburg. There's arabs and black men.
