So I was at the Santa Monica pier at sunset...

And I walked along whistling the opening to "City if Stars", as anyone would.

But nobody heard me, bacause there were 25,000 other people on the pier, and music playing from the doors of restaurants and blasting from the amusement park and buskers all trying to drown each other out and hundreds crowding the rails and taking photos and selfies as the sun set. Definitely nothing like the quiet scene in the movie where there's about three people there.

Do, Angelenos, what else in this movie is wildly inaccurate?

I've been stuck in traffic many times, but people never left their cars, breaking out in dance and singing... So unrealistic...

And I bet they lock the Griffith Park observatory in the evenings, and don't let random schmucks come in and fool with the planetarium projector.

Ah well, fantasy...

The thing people like the OP don't get about musicals is that those numbers are in the characters heads. They are not real or to be taken literally. It's all fantasy. I wouldn't stress about it anyhow. So silly.

Well, that wasn't the Santa Monica pier. It could have been any one of numerous piers in LA and Orange County. At first, the Seal Beach pier came to mind, but then I immediately realized, no, because it wasn't a wooden pier, as Seal Beach is.

It's the Hermosa Beach Pier.
