They made sucha big mistake casting Bella Ramsay as Ellie (Spoilers)

For one shes 19 and short and looks 14, so its gonna look a little dumb in season 2 for the time jump when she still looks 14 cause Bella aint gonna look any older or get any taller in a year. And i just don't see her being able to pull off being the lead in the show front and center, i just don't see it.

And the obvious thing we've all mentioned shes so far away from what Ellie looks like in the game its ridiculous. Ellie in the game is cute and has such a presence and heart to her, Bella not to be mean but just isn't cute and has zero presence, i just don't feel anything when shes saying Ellie's lines.

Ellie in part 2 is grown, shes physically different, taller and looks more matured, and is believable to go out on a revenge mission being ruthless and taking people out, now do you see Bella Ramsay pulling that off for season 2? cause i sure as hell don't, as i said above shes not gonna get any taller or look any different in a year when she goes from 19 to 20. Tbh we need another actress for Ellie in season 2 but i don't see that happening sadly.

In a perfect world we'd get Kaitlyn Dever for older Ellie in season 2, but unfortunately with the casting of Bella Ramsay who looks so odd and different from most girls no one would buy its the same person.

Which is why i say they made a huge mistake with this casting, they fucked Ellie up and its gonna be painfully obvious when she tries to pull off older Ellie from part 2.

Eric Stoltz said he will play an older Ellie. He did in the movie Mask, hard to tell them apart IMO.

reply

Lmfao, i didn't wanna go there but she does have that Rocky Dennis kinda face, not as disfigured obviously lol but theres a resemblance there for sure.

It's bad casting, in addition to how they're writing the character. Ellie in the original game has a lot of charm and is very likeable - she's not a bitchy borderline psychopath. This show is a mediocre travesty.

reply

Yep, said it on another thread, Kaitlyn Dever would have been the perfect Ellie. Lookswise she is like a real life version of Ellie and she has more charm and presence than Bella and is just as good an actress.

She would have also no problem with the switch into season 2. Oh well, that is one of the letdowns of the show.

reply

Yeah thats another thing Dever could've pulled off young Ellie cause shes not very tall and still looks pretty young but at the same time she could've also pulled off the older Ellie as well cause shes not stuck in the forever 14 look like Bella Ramsay is, i could easily see her playing both versions Ellie's.

Just saw this on youtube, someone did a deepfake of Kaitlyn as Ellie in The Last Of Us Part 2 and it looks perfect

That deepfake is indeed perfect, Dever really would have been the best choice for the role.

she's great. you're mad you can't jerk off to her.

reply

This statement reveals a hell of a lot more about you than it does about anyone else. Yikes

reply

"I know you are but what am I?"

reply

WTF is wrong with you?

reply

You're asking the wrong person.

I think she's perfect as Ellie. When it was first announced that she'd be playing Ellie I must admit that she wasn't someone I would have picked as her, but now I'm glad she was cast. She is Ellie, she's just great in the role.

I quit reading when you started talking about Part 2 (as I've still yet to find time to play it lol) but I agree that this casting was horrendous. I tried to stick with it for a few episodes but she's just not growing on me at all. And, like you, I find that she's very much lacking heart.

I mean, I get that Ellie was snarky, but she was also very sweet-seeming and came off as extremely vulnerable, naive, and childlike. Even when she was an asshole, it was in a cute way and you still worried for her and wanted to protect her (very similar to Arya in the earlier seasons of GoT). This character, however, doesn't come across like this at all. She just seems like an asshole, full stop.

I'm not really sure if it's the acting or the writing (or, heck, even her physical appearance), or a combination of all the above, but nothing about her is endearing her to me.

I think she's great. But I knew nothing of the game before that show.

It's the comparison with the original character in the game that make you (and probably everyone who played the game) dislike her casting. I can understand that. I had a similar reaction when they cast Topher Grace as Eddie Brock for Spider-Man 3 back in the day.

But I don't get how you can say that Bella Ramsey has no presence on screen... that's plain blasphemy to me. Bella's Ellie is pretty damn intense. Maybe you can't (or don't want) to see it because you can't look past what you consider a terrible miscast. I recognize it's pretty tough to unhook from a character you've known for a long time and accept a new/different version of it. But I know flat acting when I see it and I just can't agree with you on this aspect.

reply

Yup. Couldn't agree more.
