What would the fanboys think if they made a film about the making of Batman & Robin?

And it became a golden globe and oscar contender?

Well Batman and Robin is a bad movie but Joel Schumacher is a competent director and I can't imagine the behind the scene stories of B&R are all that interesting. The Disaster Artist film didn't even scratch the surface of the chaos that was going on behind the scenes. As bizarre as The Room is, The Disaster Artist book paints a picture that is nearly beyond belief of incompetence. The fact that the film and its star achieved cult status is the heart of that story. Schumacher was already a successful director so comparing the two productions is comparing apples and oranges.

But I'm guessing if they did make such a movie about the making of B&R and it was nominated for awards, fanboys would be happy.

You are right about Schumacher ,Batman and Robin was horrible thing, but Joel made some good movies (phone boot is pretty decent fast paced thriller/mystery movie)

I want to see one on the making of Gigli.

reply

Haha now that I would like to see. There was a great sketch on SNL about the making of Gigili when Ben Affleck hosted shortly after the movie bombed. They were filming the scene where the mentally challenged brother was kidnapped from the rec center and it was explained to Ben Affleck that the background extras in the scene were all really mentally challenged. In between takes one of the extras (played by Fred Armisen) introduces himself to Ben and proceeds to run down all the problems with the movie.

The thing with this movie is that it was more than just the script that was bad. This was made by a person so odd and unique that you almost have to educate people on his "process". It may be something that only really registers with film fans but it's an interesting movie nonetheless.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here- https://youtu.be/Kjf3HHXDnaw

For someone who hated The Room, I don't know why you decided to watch this.

Or did you watch it?

reply

Batman & Robin has actual production values, it's like Citizen Kane compared to The Room.

If you like films about making godawful movies, I can't recommend Tim Burton's "Ed Wood" too highly!

It's a terrific film, weird and funny, entirely true but stranger than fiction. Probably Burton's best film, and definitely Johnny Depp's best performance. It's hard to believe now, but there was a time when he was a damn good actor.

I would watch it especially if we get to see some behind-the-scenes of Uma Thurman (obviously played by another actress) trying on different Poison Ivy costumes.

I'd love to see such a film, although I doubt it would be as interesting as a film detailing the making of Batman Forever (i.e. "I cannot sanction your buffoonery.")

Any ideas on who would be cast as the various players (i.e. Schumacher, Clooney, Arnie, Alicia etc)?
