Watched on the UK Netflix and to me it was being presented as a 'cliffhanger', but it seems that many are taking it as he has definitely died.

I just read this which seems to say he is definitely dead...

I can't imagine he isn't. He seemed pretty determined to not get up and the look of the blazes at the end didn't look like the kind anyone would rush into to save him.
