Would this have done better if it didn’t have all the woke tropes?

Maybe. Or maybe Mario Bros. would’ve killed it anyway.

The 3rd D&D has great nudey tits and ass and very beautiful lead who was skimped out and kicking questionable-CGI ass. So good. They could have made a very fun direct to digital modern rated R remake instead.

HOW DO YOU WEIRDOS GET TO BE SO OLD YET MAINTAIN SUCH JUVENILE WAYS OF THINKING?

No, I havent watched it and anyway not aware of woke tropes. Haven't even heard much about this related to the film. But what I heard a lot is: "i haven't expected such a good movie". So it was killed by its marketing, not making people aware of its quality. But Mario had smashed it anyway.

Nope.

It's not overly woke. It is a good, entertaining flick but I guess marketing sucks. I hope it makes it's money back and maybe we get a part 2 ...

I enjoyed it as well and thought that it had a modest, but not overly oppressive, amount of wokery. It wasn't enough to disturb my enjoyment of the film much. In fact, I liked it a lot and had a lot of fun with it. I feel confident it will end up on my Top 10 for the year.

Almost all the characters were silly and the movie was fun, so the "woke tropes" weren't really noticeable. Poor marketing.

This.

It would have been better if it took itself seriously.

No bc other franchises have gone abit woke and still pulled in billions, think its just D&D isn't that interesting to the general audience like the way LoTR etc is (and it didn't have a major star like Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt or Leo Dicaprio as the main character to counter audience apathy. Pine being alternate CaptainKirk/sidekick of WonderWoman is like the other Chris's - their movies only pull in the big money when its their respective IPs )

Dunno... D&D is nerdy as fuck and as such the whole I.P. is a bit tarnished. My sibling has no interest in watching this because he thinks D&D is a cringe game for mega nerds.

Also not many people expected Mario to do as well as it did, it's likely to be the highest grossing film of 2023 come years end and not many people would have predicted that.

The film as is would have had a better chance when released with not much competition. This film could have been completely different and the results would have been the same, Mario is the biggest hit of the year and this film unfortunately overlapped with it.

I mean how much more 'crowd pleasing' can you try be than D&D? This film is chock full of humor and action set pieces. Most people who've watched it have had a fun time, me included. So you can only really look at the marketing and the box office climate during it's release.
