Is Season 5 woke?

S4 went pretty woke and naturally was rejected by fans. Did the creators learn their lesson?

From the cast list I can see we have two minority cops and a slew of morally shady whites. Is it a case of minorities = morally decent, whites = evil or morally dubious, or do we have some wholesome white characters too?

After a few back & forths with this poster down thread, I'm inclined to agree with you Mr. K😎

Moralising prick. It’s clear now why you’ve been dodging the question, the series is very clearly woke, and you support that sick ideology. Hang your head in shame.

reply

YOU, of all people, calling ME a "Moralising Prick"?

[–] Melton (499) 10 hours ago

Everyone has a moral duty to avoid woke content, and to warn others if they find any.

And I am NOT trying to 'avoid' answering your leading question, because 1)- we're only at the second episode, so the characters are still developing, and 2)- the show takes place in the mid-west, which is mostly white. Therefore, wouldn't it stand to reason that whether good or bad, the majority of characters are going to be white?

I say again: watch the show & decide for yourself. IMHO, it is NOT "woke". But that's just my opinion. And as you know....

....opinions are like assholes....

....but that doesn't mean YOU have to be one!!!

reply

Yes, you are a moralising prick for demonising me as ‘a yucky person’ for objecting to a racist, sexist political ideology infecting entertainment. Me saying that we must avoid woke content and warn others is not ‘moralising’ since I never assumed a superior position.

I was perfectly nice to you until you did this, at which point you revealed yourself as moral filth, and now you’ll be treated as such.

In addition, you lied the whole time. The season is very clearly woke for the reasons I’ve given. Instead of just admit it, you’ve tried to play linguistic games by obfuscating the meaning of ‘woke’, and vanished when I asked for specifics. You’re now trying to downplay the obvious wokeness of the first two episodes.

You're a deceitful asshole and an apologist for woke ideology. Hang your head in shame.

Two episodes in, & I'm more engaged in the story than I was at this point with Season 4.

That's all that matters to me.😎

That’s good to know.

reply

Is it a case of minorities = morally decent, whites = evil

To me, if the story & acting is engaging (which this season is thus far) then that "aspect" shouldn't make a difference in whether I like it or not. With Season 4, the story was not good, so the so-called negative "woke" aspects were heightened.

To put it simply, no it is not as "woke" (as you define it) as Season 4.

Why don't you try watching it for yourself, instead of pre-judging it based on the opinions of others?

reply

Everyone has a moral duty to avoid woke content, and to warn others if they find any.

You say S5 ‘is not as woke’ as S4, so it’s a bit woke? What are the woke aspects?

reply

Watch the show for yourself & decide.

Opinions about exactly what constitutes "woke" are, of course, like assholes. Everybody's got one.

So far this season, I don't get a sense of this "Whites=Evil: Non-Whites=Good" that you talk about.

I'm watching a well written & acted show that is a vast improvement on the mis-fire of last season.

reply

Watch the show for yourself & decide.

No. I’m asking this question before watching it for the reasons I’ve explained.

So far this season, I don't get a sense of this "Whites=Evil: Non-Whites=Good" that you talk about.

OK, so there are ‘good’ white characters and ‘evil’ non-whites? Are there any ‘good’ straight white males?

reply

yes, there are several,
this season is only slightly woke in that it has too much of a "go girl power" vibe in some of the scenes, especially the last few EPs

reply

So far, straight white males are portrayed as either evil or pathetic and useless. All of the positive, empowered roles have gone to women and minorities.

It’s woke AF.

reply

Danish Graves was pathetic and useless?
the viking guy was pathetic and useless?

reply

No, they obviously fall under ‘evil’ 🤷🏻‍♂️

reply

both were heroic professionals

reply

Bullshit, they’re not role models in any sense. One’s a scumbag lawyer and one’s a psychotic neanderthal.

reply

your anti-woke agenda is commendable, but you're going a little too hard on this one bro

reply

If anything I’ve been too soft on Fargo S5, and you’re in massive denial about its insane levels of woke.

reply

So far I'm finding it as intriguing as the first several seasons.....minority issues seem irrelevant as they should seem and the tomboyish daughter is still a daughter with her individuality intact.

reply

Hmm. Tomboyish daughter is a bit of a red flag.

Are there any ‘good’ straight white male characters? Any ‘evil’ non-whites?

reply

Why is there always some moronic "woke" post? Jesus. Go stream KKKDaily.com or some other vanilla shit with only white straight males in the thing.

This poster seems fixated on this issue

Bottom line for me: is it better than Season 4? The answer: so far at least, a resounding Yes!

GTFO of my thread, racist turd.

reply

It's a return to form IMO. Reminds me of S2.

reply

Jon Hamm's character seems to be an kind of inverse Lorne Malvo😎

reply

Well, I’ve watched the first two episodes and I can see why wokists are bitching out at the question ‘is it woke?’ and avoiding answering it.

The answer is ‘yes’. So far, all white males are either evil or pathetic weaklings. The two minority cops are sympathetic heroes, especially the Indian female (whose white husband is a deadbeat asshole gambler running up debts, dragging her down)

The worst is John Hamm’s big bad - an ultra conservative sexist patriarch, and his evil goober son. Basically a Leftists wet dream portrayal of Conservatives.

The daughter ‘Scotty’ definitely has some weird gender ambiguity going on 🙄

On a pure story level the series has started strong and seems like a step up from S4, just a shame it’s been infected by this racist, sexist political ideology.

I’ll report on future episodes but woke-wise… it’s off to a bad start.

Everyone has a moral duty to avoid woke content

Ah, 'yes' it is, but being that you're going to keep watching (and you watched that "pretty woke" S4 as well), I guess that makes you immoral. And what difference does it make when we both know you were always going to watch anyway? You're clearly part of the show's audience, whether you pretend to hate it or not. From a ratings standpoint, you're indistinguishable from a fan.

reply

I am a fan… of the first 3 seasons. The wokeness of S4 was a surprise to everyone, and S5 looked less likely to be woke given the failure of S4 and apparent return to the formula of earlier seasons.

The crucial thing is to never fund woke. As I’m already a Prime member, I’m not giving the creators any more money than they would otherwise be getting. I’m also here warning people about the woke levels - exactly as I said one should. So your attempt to scrape the barrel for some kind of hypocrisy ‘gotcha’ has embarrassingly failed.

Now are you going to answer the original question or are you another woke maggot trying to deflect it?

reply

Now it's about funding? What happened to everyone's "moral duty" to avoid? Move the goal posts much?

You contribute to the show's ratings -- which is what we'll keep that content going. It's about viewership, and you'll clearly be part of that viewership going forward -- despite the wokeness you just confirmed it to be. If you were consistent, you'd have no reason to keep watching, yet you immediately said you would, rather than doing this "moral duty" called avoiding such content. What else do you need to see? Why didn't say you wouldn't watch it any longer, then just get to the warning others part? My 'gotcha' didn't fail, but your lame attempt to crab walk away to this new 'crucial thing' about funding certainly did.

You'll watch every episode, just like you always have. You probably watched it before your OP. Woke or not, you're in. You openly planned to flout your first principle in an instant without even realizing it, lol.

reply

Twat, you already fell flat on your face with your first failed hypocrisy ‘gotcha’, and now you’re doubling down??

I already explained it’s about funding, which I’m not doing because I already pay for Prime.

Obviously if a series is overtly woke from Day 1 it can be instantly dismissed, the issue here is that Fargo began as an excellent, non-woke series, then suddenly went woke with S4, and apparently learned from that mistake with a return-to-form S5… except that it’s so far looking like it hasn’t dropped the woke at all. That could yet change, the situation is fluid, and I’m here to warn people of the wokeness that is so far present - in order to do that I need to watch it, you dumb fuck, so I’m not going to worry about a single extra viewing figure 🤦🏻‍♂️

You’ve waded in here swinging your tiny balls, desperately nitpicking for some hypocrisy in my posts and failing to find any. Why? Because you’re another woke shitstain who cannot stand people pointing out your sick ideology.

It’s always fun watching a low IQ smug tosser try and score a win 🤣 You’ve fallen flat on your face twice now. Third time lucky, eh? Have another shot…

reply

Stop projecting, with "doubling down" as you repeat the silly funding remark. You are a viewer of Fargo, your choice to watch (NOT AVOID) has been tallied as part of the numbers that decide to keep a show going or not. Prime membership is irrelevant. It's what you decided to watch with it. Your Fargo viewing habit is the same as any fan, and tracked views are what counts.

You keep watching, despite a woke S4, and confirmed suspicions that the first 2 eps of S5 are woke as well. What will it take for you to honor your "moral duty" -- that you strangely haven't mentioned again in two replies?

Now to the asinine "fluid" situation. Let's see how your dumb charter looks now. You must watch all of it, while, somehow, maintaining this moral duty -- that everyone else should maintain as well -- to avoid watching? So someone must be shirking their moral duty, or who will watch and report back?? And why did you even ask anyone here? Only 2 eps are available, right? So NO ONE could ever answer "Is Season 5 Woke?" with a complete assessment. Like I said, you were ALWAYS going to watch, b/c you need to see ALL of the eps yourself anyway -- b/c of this latest fluid situation bit -- so why ask when we only have 2? Who cares? You'll need to watch anyway to see if it changes, according to this latest crab walk, right? You keep finding more and more reasons to do exactly what you said everyone shouldn't.

You're the last person who should continue watching, but we both know that isn't true, b/c you're just another fraud, feigning disgust and outrage, as he continues to consume this content like the obvious fan that he is. You were never going to do what you said EVERYONE should be doing. You immediately crossed your tracks, b/c your moralizing has nothing to do with your reality.

The more you type, the more you trip.

reply

The cringe is so extreme now that, even though I detest low IQ, bloated ego, woke maggots like yourself… I’m actually starting to pity you.

Because you’re a deceitful cunt you only quoted a sentence fragment of mine to begin with. Had you been honest and actually quoted the full sentence:

Everyone has a moral duty to avoid woke content, and to warn others if they find any.

… you wouldn’t have landed in the pit of painfully embarrassing cringe you’re now frantically trying to dig your way out of.

If you’d just been honest you wouldn’t have fatally confused yourself, but you couldn’t help yourself, you needed to have that phoney ‘gotcha’ to wave in front of your fellow cultists for approval (they don’t give a shit 🤣) … even if it meant flat out misrepresenting what I said.

Given that nobody here answered my question as to whether S5 was woke (the one person who initially responded kept fencing and turned out to be a liar because it’s another woke shithead like you), I checked it out for myself so that I can warn others, and that’s exactly what I’m doing, as per my stated moral duty. So far it seems woke but, as I said, the situation is fluid because it could yet change, and I’ll be updating my warning as I go.

All of this is painfully obvious to anyone paying attention, but you’re such a sad twat you raced passed it so that you could have your pathetic manufactured gotcha, and even after you were exposed for having failed you’ve tripled down in a cascade of ever worsening cringe posts.

I’m banking on your fat ego to keep digging and further showcase your basic bitch bag of rhetorical tricks to try and convince… someone… that you found some hypocrisy somewhere. It’s a fascinating portrait of the deluded and obnoxious woke brain, and funny as hell to watch 🤣🍿

Take 4… don’t disappoint now…

reply

Melton is still melting. I'm glad you put that silly edict on display again, so everyone can see the stupidity baked into it.

There's no scenario where the avoiding part comes in if you find it, b/c once you find it, you have to slavishly watch like any other fan (how convenient!), b/c it's fluid, and you need to monitor its level of wokeness episode after episode, from one season to the next and the next, to warn this group of nonexistents here, who are supposedly anxiously waiting for you to "report back" -- LOL -- before deciding whether to do their "moral duty" to avoid watching this woke content that you can't stop watching. Keep watching now! Thanks for being immoral for the sake of 'warning others' here who will never do anything but watch for themselves -- just like YOU did, despite woke S4, then pretending that you weren't sure if S5 did the same. Who do you think you're fooling?

And for the record I hate the woke movement, but I hate frauds like you even more. Woke or not, you're clearly a devout fan. So keep rejecting woke S5, like you 'rejected' woke S4, by WATCHING EVERY EPISODE, just like the first seasons. Your loyal viewership really shows the decision makers your commitment to your 'moral duty' to avoid woke content. That's fuckin brilliant.

reply

And for the record I hate the woke movement,

Yeah, right. The only reason you’re here is because you’re a woke bitch who saw someone calling out your cult and you leapt to its defence with what you thought was the gotcha to end all gotchas. You were going to be the pink hero among your fellow woke fucktards, you just had to lie to get it.

Sadly for you, you were instantly exposed and nobody was impressed. You’ve just made an epic twat of yourself, slamming your face repeatedly into the ground as you desperately tried to dig your way out.

The cringe is so extreme now that even you're starting to feel it. Exhausted, humiliated, and having impressed nobody with your toxic little stunt, you’re now trying the new tack of crab-walking away from woke altogether 🤣

Now that you’re abandoning woke, let’s take another look at my very self-explanatory quote that you were too fucking dumb to understand:

Everyone has a moral duty to avoid woke content, and to warn others if they find any.

So in order to avoid woke content you need to start by asking if something is woke, which I did. If you don’t get an answer then you need to find out for yourself so that you can warn others.

Obviously you need to make sure you’re not paying for any potentially woke content, so either download it for free or check if it’s on any pre-paid streaming services you might have (you might encounter some woke prick, desperate for a gotcha, who tries to convince you that a single viewing figure on the streaming service’s records constitutes payment, just laugh in their cretinous fucking face)

Got that? I really hope so, for your sake, but I’ve got a feeling you’re not done digging and you’re still going to try and save face with some more hilariously pathetic backtracking and embarrassingly obvious sophistry.

Dance for me again, you absolute fucking dildo…

Who cares?? LOL. Keep watching now! That'll show'em!

Noah Hawley says thanks for your steadfast support. Views are what keeps shows from being cancelled, and helps them to get more money to produce another season.

Now I command you to reply with another blizzard of wordy nothingness that tries to deflect from what was obvious from the start. Your viewing habit is indistinguishable from a fan. Why? B/c that's exactly what you are. Woke or not, you're locked in. No reply to your disingenuous question was ever going to stop you from watching. Transparent, and not an ounce of cunning, as you immediately tripped over your silly edict. You don't avoid it, you run towards it. If you didn't, you'd have nothing to blather on about. Another fraud complaining about content that he slavishly consumes like any other devout fan.

Now reply to show how you can't control yourself!

edit: works every time, lol.

The cringe is almost unbearable now. Every avenue of attack you’ve attempted has spectacularly backfired. You waded into the lion’s den with your sophistry starter kit and got utterly ripped to shreds. Now I’m just playing with your wheezing corpse, enjoying your pathetic last gasps, which include… trying to mimic my style 🤣

I can’t think of a sadder case of someone being so totally dominated that they actually suck up to their victor with the sincerest form of flattery - imitation.

This exchange will stand as a monument to what happens when a pathetic shitstain uses nursery-grade intellectual dishonesty to try and take someone down, and gets so utterly trounced that they end up trying to copy their opponent 🤣🤣

I would pity you if you weren’t such a nasty woke piece of shit. Humiliate yourself even more for me now. Degrade yourself for my amusement with another pathetic last gasp. Go…

reply

OMG, you couldn't resist! Another hot air blather to deflect from your painfully obvious and unwavering obsession with consuming the very thing you want others to avoid. I could hear you gritting what teeth you have left before you bit on the new bait, lol. So little control that you came back 2 DAYS LATER to reread my reply!

Man, you really are a kook. "lion's den", huh? LMAO. More like a sucker flapping around in a mud puddle.

And imitation? You mean like "crab-walking away"? Gee, did I teach you a new phrase in addition to popping your sanctimonious balloon with a needle called reality?

Where's your 'report' on Ep3? Everyone is just dying to know what you think before they act, and by 'everyone' I mean no one at all.

reply

🤣🤣🤣

I used to wonder why some kids at school attract bullies, in your case I can see why - you’re a natural weakling, but you’re also the kind of nasty little turd who turns Woke to feel empowered, hoping you can snipe back, protected by your cult.

The hilarity of watching you fall flat on your face over and over, and then frantically try and dig yourself out of the vertical tunnel you’ve created for yourself, is matched by the fact that none of your Woke ‘comrades’ have come to your aid 🤣🤣

As much as I pity you, I loathe you even more, and it entertains me to watch you throw your pathetic little punches and kicks while I comfortably hold you at arms length. So don’t disappoint, continue to debase yourself for my amusement. See if you can land a little scratch. Try copying me again, that worked last time 🤣

Another internet tough guy who is unquestionably a weenie in real life. And btw, those emojis are soooo cool.

Adorable 🙏🏻🙏🏻🤣🤣

Alright, I think you’ve humiliated yourself enough ya dumb woke bitch. Now GTFO of my thread.

reply

the issue here is that Fargo began as an excellent, non-woke series, then suddenly went woke with S4,

You seem to be forgetting about the cucked Gus Grimley, and his Tom-boyish daughter in S01,and the put upon & dismissed female Molly Solverson who prevails over all the white males in that season.

Or the overtly feminist Peggy (& her boss- the Constance Zimmer character- in S02? There were some aspects of that in Nikki Swango in S03 as well.

Granted, S01-03 were nowhere near the woke level of S04, & the stories were more engaging & better acted than S04, which is why I bailed on S04 after only a few episodes.

As far as I'm concerned, Fargo S05 (so far anyway) is nowhere near the level of woke that S04 was, or the godawfully woke " Everything Is Gonna Be All White" from a couple years ago.

reply

No, S1 had a healthy white male role model in Colin Hanks. S2 had the same with Ted Danson, and wasn’t afraid to have a black villain with Bokeem Woodbine. Good and evil was spread among the races and genders, just like in Cobra Kai - a model of excellent, non-woke modern TV.

S5 so far has many white males, all of whom are either evil or pathetically weak, and the two hero cops - the only truly sympathetic characters (Dot is an nutcase) are non-white. It is absurd to have a Minnesota-set series with not one white male worthy of being a role model, and of course the big bad played by John Hamm is a Leftist’s wet dream version of a Conservative. It stinks of woke.

Things could yet change, it’s early days, but I’m not holding my breath…

reply

In the first two episodes it has a couple of identity politic points, but not overly so.

I didn't watch season 4 as it was described as woke by people I trusted, but these first two episodes I feel is as good as anything in season 1 & 2.

We could of course be getting led into a trap by these evil modern content makers and be ambushed by THE MESSAGE at any time, but alas that is the risk we have with any modern production.

reply

Thanks for actually answering the question. Lot of woke maggots in here trying to deflect it, but always good to expose them.

I’ve now seen the first two eps and, unfortunately, I’ve noticed some heavy signs of THE MESSAGE as outlined here: https://moviechat.org/tt2802850/Fargo/65619e854407527f73b4a478/Is-Season-5-woke?reply=6563d2135289015c94f95582

The series could turn things around but it looks like the main players are in place now and the disdain for straight white males is pretty unambiguous.

Well done on avoiding S4 🍻

reply

At this point it should be a matter of how woke something is.

Someone should come up with some type of rating scale that consist of degrees or levels of wokeness.

reply

Already exists, but it’s early days: https://worthitorwoke.com/

reply

The series could turn things around but it looks like the main players are in place now and the disdain for straight white males is pretty unambiguous.

----

...and for one straight female -- Jennifer Jason Leigh's Lorraine, who -- 6 episodes in -- looks like she is on a kill mission against Jon Hamm and the white males given her own contempt for them. Even as she is equally as right wing as Hamm(it would seem that their main difference is his religious bent.)

I honestly can't remember all the characters from seasons 1-4 but this particular season seems to have gone out of its way to be "political." I find it all rather "on the nose" and rather an insult to the tone and non-political meaning of the Coens' original film (from which season 5 quotes most copiously -- recreated scenes in "new ways," using the theme music from the film at key points, etc.) As a matter of originality, "Fargo" the movie is an A+ classic, Season 5 is a D minus "same old, same old."

It is here that we must remember Michael Douglas' quote when asked if the movie industry was "too liberal." He said "So what? We have a lot of conservative industries in America, why not have one liberal one?" We shouldn't be shocked that this is the kind of product made by the industry -- we should expect it and judge as to whether or not its creative enough.

So Season 5 has been written from a particular political POV -- the villains spout conservative bromides and watch FOX news -- to be CONSUMED from a particular POV. If that's your bent, you are going to love this season. If not -- they didn't write this for you, they don't care if you don't watch it, they may not WANT you to watch it.

CONT

reply

If you are somewhere "in between" (like me), you see the transparent -- and lazy -- characterizations but stick around for the GOOD dialogue writing, the GOOD acting (Jon Hamm has many of the qualities of an old time movie star -- the looks, the voice, the manner -- and he is aging and gaining interesting girth that only makes it better.)

And of course for the fact that the villains here are SO villainous -- Hamm slapping his current woman around with impunity having beaten his earlier wife even more brutally; the Native American cop's worthless, lazy woman-belittling husband, JJL(having brought her snotty snob accent from the Coens "The Hudsucker Proxy" along to accentuate the villainy) crushing "the little people" with impunity while of course showing off her gun collection in a Christmas card, Hamm's punk bully of a lousy cop son -- these are a bunch of BAD bad guys and the entire season is built upon waiting to see just HOW they are going to lose and get killed, etc. (Unless the series chooses another trope --"the bad guys win" -- which has been depressingly evident in too many crime series these days.)

Its pretty easy to get the audience's blood boiling by showing a man beating a defenseless woman, or a cruel rich woman destroying the lives of her "lessers," or watching a lazy bum victimize his hard working wife. These are bad guys as bad as any of them that good old right wing John Wayne used to kill off in HIS movies. A bad guy is a bad guy.

Still yeah, the heroic cop is a woman of color (and her no account husband is white); Jon Hamm put a more experienced African-American cop in place to "supervise" his own too-stupid villiainous white son (but called them BOTH "libtards" when they botched a hospital room kidnapping); another cop of color is also sympathetic. Its the way of production that Michael Douglas was talking about, and it shall ever be thus.

I suppose a real issue here (if not THE issue) is the extent to which all sorts of villains exist i who are NOT white and right wing, and will series give them "equal time"? I'll leave the question unanswered but note in passing that an old HBO series called "The Deuce" featured a raft of African American pimps who brutalized and sometimes murdered their female hooker charges(black and white alike) with a cruelty that was certainly villainous. So sometimes a series will do something different.

In the meantime, take Michael Douglas' advice: assume that the movie(TV) industry is liberal, that is as it should be, and it is the fervent hope of that industry that we all live in THEIR world eventually, as expressed in these TV shows.

Because...these TV showrunners are so influential on modern society, right?

PS. Season 5's complete falldown from the sophistication of "Fargo" the movie reminds me of a series of a few years ago called "Bates Motel" that worked from the sophistication of another classic: Psycho. In a key scene in Bates Motel, Norman Bates killed a victim in a shower...but the victim was a man(not a woman as in the movie), and Norman didn't wear his mother's dress and a wig(as in the movie) -- said the showrunners: (1) to avoid showing violence to women and (2) so as not to offend the trans community. (Whereas in the 1960 movie, the killer's cross dressing added an element of sexual confusion to the tale.) Its Michael Douglas' Hollywood now.

Michael Douglas can go suck a dick and there will be NO acceptance of Woke. It crept out of the Left’s butthole 7-8 years ago and infected Hollywood. The cancer has spread and it must be cut out completely, and then we can go back to how films were forever until very recently - apolitical and not trying to indoctrinate normal people into some sick, racist, sexist, hateful cult.

It is everyone’s duty to avoid Woke, and to call it out if you see it to warn others to stay away.

Hollywood has taken a massive beating in terms of Box Office this year due to their embrace of Woke, we must continue to starve the beast and strangle it until it’s dead and shareholders realise that they’re fucked.

When Hollywood resumes putting out quality entertainment, and completely drops the toxic Woke agenda, they can have our money again.

The funny thing is, Michael Douglas hasn't particularly been in a lot of actively "woke" movies and Falling Down perhaps played the other way.

I'll only get pulled into this so far, but I think the issue is that Hollywood as we have it is studying the impact of woke on box office. It used to be that the argument "Hollywood is alienating half of its potential audience" didn't matter. All of the key players could PERSONALLY make millions of dollars if only half of the population showed up, and with international box office in the equation, it didn't matter much if American audiences came or not (hence, American politics didn't matter.)

But that was then and this is now. The streaming economy and markets are more vulnerable to audience loss. Still, I don't know how they can change the way they are, or would want to. These are strongly held beliefs. The more you attack people on their personal beliefs, the more they dig in and fight back. Watch the Oscar speeches.

I'm gonna keep watching Fargo Season 5 because I think the villains are ultra-evil and the payback will be sweet. They didn't need the Fox TV and Trump references but they think they did.

The theme of the show this year is domestic violence. Look up the killers and victims of male/female domestic violence. Cuts across all politics and races. They don't all watch Fox news.

PS. Barbie supposedly broke the "woke, broke" accusation but from what I saw (all those females in pink at the theater) every woman from 70 down to 4 had Barbie memories. Politics may have been in the movie, but politics didn't matter to everyone who showed up. Remember: a billion dollar gross means everybody CAME to the movie, it doesn't mean everybody ENJOYED it. Also, with the billions of people in the world, and ticket prices, movies are STILL drawing a fairly low percentage of world population. Still...big money can be made for a small number of people.

Barbie had two attractive white people all over the marketing, it didn’t look woke and so people flocked in droves.

Of course, they got a nasty surprise when the feminist messaging stuffed with heavy misandry barfed itself over the audience, but by that time they’d paid up.

If they’d tried to ‘diversify’ things with a Black Barbie or Hispanic Ken everyone would have known this, rolled their eyes, and stayed home. The studio knew this. They’ve seen the fate of Black Ariel and Snow Brown. They’re learning.

I follow up to note that in episode 7 ("Linda") we indeed saw female abuse victims of several races. We can give Fargo Season 5 the time, I think, to retreat a little from the broad brush of the first few episodes and to bring the nuance. Maybe some characters will change. Hard to see how. Or, as in Linda, new characters will be brought in.
