'The Blacklist' Renewed for Season 8 on NBC

The network has renewed the drama for an eighth season in 2020-21. The show's cast and crew learned of the pickup at a celebration for the 150th episode, currently in production in New York.

The series, currently on hiatus until March 20 [2020], has been a reliable performer for NBC on Friday nights the past two seasons. The Sony Pictures TV/Universal TV spy drama starring James Spader and Megan Boone is averaging a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 - tied for the best mark among Friday dramas this season - and 6.6 million viewers with a week of delayed viewing.

I was really hoping it would say, "Renewed for an eighth and final season". Not sure how much longer they can keep dragging it out.

Me too. better to have a proper end than being cancelled

I watched it for two seasons and then got bored. What is the appeal of it for 8 seasons? Or is it basically being carried by James Spader being James Spader?

no spader will not watch

I would have gotten bored by this show years ago if not for Spader.

I bailed out after a few seasons. It kept going nowhere, like Lost.
Another show I bailed out on a few seasons in is supernatural.
Yet, I keep watching SVU @@

I think the issue is that Blacklist and supernatural seem to have a long arc, but that arc is going absolutely nowhere. It all reminded me of Lost, which I stopped watching after 2 seasons.

It's like you know they keep coming up with new shit on the spot, with the long arc always being mentioned, but also being dead on tracks.

At least SVU isn't pretending to have a long arc.

If not for Spader my interest would have wavered years ago. He's the talent that keeps this show going.
