As much as it sucks, this won't work.
However, fans don't have to consider it official in their own minds. Disney doesn't control us that completely just yet.

Somehow I go to web sites and either get a your shits outta date message or I get some archived bullshit page...page I got said 0 signatures help us get to 7500 LOL! shareExcept Luke Skywalker is still a hero. Why can't a hero be fallible, experience fear, anger, regret, etc? Luke is someone who takes his responsibilities very seriously and was caught unawares by the influence of Snoke who was creaping about in the shadows like a vampire. In Ben Solo he saw something he had never seen before and could not handle or confront at the time. He fled.
His appearance and actions on Crait was his best effort to make a stand and send a message to his former pupil (Kylo) and help make good the escape of the Resistance team. Kylo will not easily forget the confrontation or Luke's words - "I will always be there".

The gentleman who started the petition has posted an update basically saying that he now realizes people are giving this matter way, WAY too much attention when there are far more important matters to focus on.

Petition now up to 34,000 people and counting. While this petition will change nothing, it will send a message to Disney for this unacceptable terribly written monstrosity masquerading as Star Wars. Of course, a drop in attendance is the best way to send a message.
shareTLJ is the first Star Wars movie I've enjoyed since RotJ. No, I won't sign this petition.
