Writers/directors fired, show getting reworked

It didn’t take long to see the problem after Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again paused production in mid-June during the writers strike. Fewer than half of the series’ 18 episodes had been shot, but it was enough for Marvel executives, including chief Kevin Feige, to review the footage and come away with a clear-eyed assessment: The show wasn’t working.

So, in late September, Marvel quietly let go of head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman and also released the directors for the remainder of the season as part of a significant creative reboot of the series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The studio is now on the hunt for new writers and directors for the project, which stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer turned superhero.

Yet apparently they didn’t have an issue with their other crap shows or movies the past few years?

reply

Haha, also I genuinely cannot believe it took them this fucking long to realise that shows need showrunners.

Someone who knows what they're doing & plans the season out.

reply

Blew my mind when I read that crap. Every hit show ever made has a strong Showrunner behind it. They thought they were gonna invent a way around that? Return things to the studio system of the 40s?

reply

I had to look it up when I read that. Apparently, they just let the writers of the episodes & whoever was directing, run it.

I mean sure, you definitely need writers & directors for those individual episodes but you gotta put someone in charge. Someone with experience.

No wonder these new phases have felt disjointed.

reply

All that effort with the strikes, only to be let go right after they ended lol.

As you said, I can’t believe it took this long for them to realize their writers suck, unless they knew all along and were just waiting for an excuse to undo their mistake of hiring them in the first place, with as little fallback as possible.

Well, now’s the time to call the guys who wrote the Netflix show and ask if they wanna come back.

reply

Firstly, so Feige just came in & saw that it wasn't working? What? Who was in charge exactly?

Cause they shot almost half the season already & no one thought, "gee, this doesn't seem that great".

And secondly, I read somewhere that they can't bring back the Netflix writers cause the way they renamed the show & are rebooting it was done as a way not pay the original show's writers.

I wish they could though. That show is hands down my all time favorite comicbook series.

reply

Except now they realized they need good writers to make a show that the audience actually wants. If they’re willing to swallow their pride and fire crappy hacktivist writers, then it’s possible (though I won’t hold my breath) that they’ll hire the previous writers who are actually worth what the hacktivists went on strike for.

reply

Right? They should've just gotten those writers in the first place. They have a proven track record.

And they also made a gorgeous looking show with a fraction of the Disney plus shows.

The cinematography, writing, directing & acting of Netflix's Daredevil was TOP NOTCH.

Man, I Fucking loved that show.

reply

I'm hoping it's good. I look forward to a new and better take on Punisher. I liked him in Daredevil season 2 but then they screwed up his origin in his show with the stupid government conspiracy involving his army unit. And they screwed up Jigsaw. I can understand people not liking the Netflix Daredevil series getting cancelled. We're lucky we can watch it on Disney Plus.

reply

I was so let down by Punisher Season One that I've never bothered watching Season 2.

reply

I know it's a little late but when it first came out I quit watching season 2 quite a few episodes in cause it's mostly about Frank protecting this girl from a Christian Extremist who thinks anyone that lives a sinful lifestyle should die. I got sick of that premise. And they seemed to be doing Jigsaw sympathetically where he couldn't remember his past.

Also I am surprised that Daredevil Born again is even still coming out in 2024. It will probably be delayed to 2025. Also they should change the title since Punisher was not even in the comic story Born again. Frankly though I like Punisher and look forward to seeing him in the upcoming Daredevil show, it sounds more like this whole premise of the show is Daredevil fighting the Punisher who will probably be trying to kill the Kingpin. I don't hate that premise but you shouldn't call the show Born again when the show isn't even really adapting that.
