Emily Blunt

from IMDB trivia - "She was offered a role in Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 (2017) which she had to decline due to her pregnancy. They had worked together before in Sicario (2015)."

So which role would blunt have been cast out of Joi, Luv, Robin Wrights police boss, or the Mackenzie Davis hooker?

I guess Luv? (similar age/height as the actress they cast, also a fierce female role like Edge of Tomorrow with abit of substance to it)..can't see her being Joi (the actress was alot younger and the love interest hologram might've been demeaning for blunt?), she too young for robin wrights role, too famous for the minor hooker role

God, I hate the new puritanism...

Blunt is kind of a popular leading actress right now so the digitized girlfriend character seems too small a role for her and frankly doesn't seem her style. While not a bad looking woman she's not the "eye candy" type. It's a similar thing with with the prostitute character. Too small a role, not really her style and kind of a waste. So definitely neither of those

That leaves the characters Ryan Gosling's boss & the female replicant antagonist character. She seems a bit young for Robin Wright's role though not completely unfeasible. So I'm strongly leaning towards the role of the deadly female replicant assassin character as she has shown she can play tough, physical roles in films such as Edge of Tomorrow & Sicario.

Through that process of elimination, I agree with that. She would've likely played the female assassin character. While I have no doubts about Emily's fitness and toughness on screen, I do wonder how she would've pulled things off as a cruel, back-stabbing villain. As far as I know, she hasn't really played that type of character before (she's Mary Poppins and headlining Disney films!). I know she was the "bitchy" character in Devil Wears Prada, but it would've been interesting to see how Emily Blunt played a completely evil, remorseless, and violent replicant.

She would have been great but Hoeks was good.

Demeaning how?

Yes she could of played all those parts thats been listed but how about her playing K, is it possible that Denis toyed with the idea of having a female Blade runner?

Interesting..

Probably some truth in this...

It was rumoured that the original lead character for Sicario, played by Blunt, was supposed to be a man... It was supposed to have a subtext of the naive younger man being exploited by older, more experience and powerful men...

Casting Blunt changed that theme a bit... But Sicario was still a solid movie (worth watching if you haven't)...
