What Music Genre is Blade Runner 2049 Soundtrack?

I love this kind of music, i looked up "Electronic music' but that only got me techno type beats or dubstep.

What Genre is this music you hear in Blade Runner 2049 and some other Sci Fi movies like Oblivion, Tron, etc?

thanks

With a mix of artists like Hans Zimmer, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley, it's difficult to place it in one genre or category, which was also the case of the original Bladerunner soundtrack.

reply

i mean specifically the music you hear especially when they fly through the dystopian city and when he's flying his car and also the sex scene.

reply

Usually, the Hollywood music is some inferior copy attempt of ambient techno music.

Listening to the soundtrack, I was reminded of Haxan Cloak or Burial. You can also try Aphex Twin (ambient albums) or Future Sound of London. FSOL even samples original Blade Runners "Rachel's Song" in their "My Kingdom".

Thank you very useful comment, i'll lookup your suggestions.

try genres like dark ambient or drone music.

I didn't know what to call the music either..but some of it sounded ancient and aboriginal--like in Australia.

WTF? Ancient and aboriginal?

I think shbinak refers to the Wallace theme.

For any particular artists, definitely look up Tangerine Dream. The 80’s scores they’re responsible for (Risky Business, Thief, Near Dark, The Keep, and Shy People to name a few) are filled with sounds that, well, sound like they belong in a Blade Runner film. The group in general are masters at creating electronic and ambient sounds that sound otherworldly. They have an impressive discography.

Incidentally, Krautrock (Kraftwerk) and some New Age music might suit your needs, too.

By the way, New Wave it ain’t (as some “knowledgeable” goons would say). Hans Zimmer, known for his certain electronic touches, is behind most of the synthesizers sounds in 2049, and these sounds are indeed electronic based — obviously they’re different than what’s played on the radio. But the overall score is in the same vein as the original Blade Runner score which was performed by Vangelis.

you can download it on torrent sites its pretty good. i would call it lounge retro tech

ignore all previous answers because people who dont know shit about anything will answer here as usual. The Genre is "Ambient" mixed with 80s New Wave.

ambient has been mentioned two times before.

reply

no, please read before you think

reply

yeah that's what i was gonna ask you to.

and by the way, it's hardly "mixed with 80s new wave". i think you refer to the soundtrack of the original soundtrack by vangelis, but the topic is about the soundtrack of blade runner 2049, which consists, like i said, mostly of dark ambient and drone elements.

reply

maybe so, maybe no
