The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. The film stars Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla”), David Jonsson (“Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“The Last of Us”), Spike Fearn (“Aftersun”), Aileen Wu. Fede Alvarez (“Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe”) directs from a screenplay he wrote with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett.

Wonder if that's an early version of the Pulse Rifle... Reminds me of the game I used to play back in the day Aliens: Colonial Marines. Just all straight up action. I don't think there would be much drawn out suspense building. Alien slasher flick.

This movie is going to Rock!

reply

It didn't look bad.

I'm not even gonna pull out the woke card either, given that this franchise has been female-led from the very beginning ^^

But it's the story that will matter in the end - the latest alien films had chatgpt-like scripts, with some cringy dialogue and characters.

I'm worried that they are showing a lot of people running from aliens and being attacked. I hope there is more substance to the movie than that. I get no sense of the plot, script or characters.

Still, it's a teaser. Will reserve judgement until we see a full trailer.

From what I've read and watching the teaser it will be just that, basically going back to the original horror concept (alien on a spaceship) but even more extreme, and updated with all the modern day bells & whistles CGI meets old school miniatures/animatronics (the old 'Aliens' fx model/puppet teams were brought in on it), and most likely full of homages/references to the previous films (including the RScott prequels). apparently its pleased both Scott and Cameron (Scott bc its obviously close to his original and probably is respectful and references his beloved prequels, and Cameron bc it'll do the same with his film).

Basically it sounds like it'll be Alien (full on horror, set on a spaceship) meets Aliens (action, multiple xenos/pulse rifles etc) which is what Resurrection tried to do (but totally failed in its execution) and the climax of Covenant (which felt abit tacked on as if to appease audiences)

reply

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t this supposed to be the sequel to Covenant we’ve been waiting for? Or is it a prequel to Prometheus now?

reply

It's a standalone set between Alien and Aliens , but may have connections to Prometheus/Covenant no one knows yet

reply

Apparently is the story on how the base in Aliens become overrun.

reply

Cool. Any sequel, prequel of Alien I’ll watch haha. Thanks for the replies.

reply

It does look better than expected.
