"CIVIL" wars do NOT require that hte fighting be done between civilians, but that the fighting is within ONE country, or between factions of a single country.
The US civil war was a bid odd, in that a lot of the neighbor fighting neighbor was avoided, but that doesnt mean that calling it a civil war is wrong.
It was just one of the ways our civil war was unusual.
