Is this worth a look?

I have it now on Peacock. I noticed it's over 3 hours long. One really wasn't interested in looking at Cillian Murphy for three hours. Not too crazy about the rest of the cast either.

On the other hand - it does have plenty of Academy Award nominations.

I'm curious and would like to ask anyone that has seen it - should I bother with it????

reply

Yes, it is one of the best films of the year. Definitely a must see.

reply

Ok sounds good - thank you.

reply

You can usually see in the first 15 minutes if the movie is for you...

reply

no its not. its another nolanist borefest full of historical lies

reply

Well, I'm going to find out soon. Just ordered blu-ray and it should arrive in a few days. I have high expectations and I'm sure I'll enjoy it more than Dunkirk and Tenet.

reply

yet another idiot who buy blue ray of movies he never watched before

reply

Ah.... look at the love, joy, and happiness you bring into the world.....

Hahahahah

reply

It was cheap and I only buy movies that interests me. I watch new movies very rarely in theater nowadays. The last movie I watched in theater was Joker in 2019. That was just before covid.

They certainly whitewashed Oppenheimer, painting him in the best possible light when he tried to poison his advisor (and no, in real life he didn't go back to retrieve the apple), and omitting his other psychopathic behavior (which I talked about here: https://moviechat.org/tt15398776/Oppenheimer/64bad54ea4b03806da33372f/Oppenheimer-tried-to-murder-his-professor).

reply

And what are these lies?

reply

Yes, exactly correct. This is why I like to get other opinions.

Many times I gave up on a movie quickly, only to hear later I should have stuck with it.

A perfect example is "Million Dollar Baby"

I quit on that after 20 minutes - thinking it was another familiar, tired story (old guy trains her, she gets attached, he dies).

Well, I was quite wrong, LOL

reply

It depends on what kind of person you are.

It is very long, but at times a lot of information is coming at you and demands your undivided attention, it is not a pop corn movie.

If you have in-depth knowledge about the history, you are not going to be very happy about it, because it is more of a story based on history. If you came out of this movie felt history learnt, no, you just have been told a story, that is pretty much it.

reply

Gotcha. Thanks.

reply

It’s worth a look.

The film is a chronological mess, so it’s best to familiarize yourself with the subject first.

The film had great potential but in the end it’s maybe a 5/10.

reply

Pugh's bare body is definitely worth a look. And it's on display here, in the some of the most vivid shots imaginable
