Would be cool to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan become the lead after Andrew Lincoln leaves

I know its rumored Daryl is gonna take over as the leader but Daryl aint no leader, he aint the type to give no big speeches or shit like that. Daryl is a great sidekick/2nd in command but he aint no leader.

What i want is for Negan to have a redemption story throughout season 9, make him change the way he thinks while he's locked up, show us flashbacks of his past with his wife, make him real sympathetic. Have him play a big role in helping defeat The Whisperers.

Cause Jefferey Dean Morgan i think can lead the show and fill Andrew Lincoln's spot as the lead way better than Norman Reedus could. Plus people would be invested in him to see how he transitions from bad guy to good guy and how he keeps it together.

Also it would pretty much bring Carl's dream to reality, and show us people can change and it doesn't always have to end with death.

I mean how cool would that be to see a big villain like Negan transition to a good guy and join the main group? They teased it with The Governor for a moment but of course didn't go through with it, but i think with Andrew Lincoln leaving they need someone like Jeffrey Dean Morgan to step up as the lead in the show.

Nope. Negan is a shitty character played by a shitty actor who plays always the same character in everything he does.

Negan ruined the show and making him the lead would put the last nail in the coffin and the redemption of an unredeemable asshole would be the last straw.

OMG!! This post is as if I wrote it. I agree COMPLETELY ! JDM is a hack , and cartoonish buffoon Negan ruined the show.

reply

Cool! Apparently a lot of people agree since the ratings plummeted with Negan's arrival.

I will say that I personally do like Jeffrey Dean Morgan and he can be charismatic and appealing..but he isn't in TWD..Not as Negan.
And there's no way to convincingly "nice up" Negan..Not for me.

I know they've all crossed lines and gone on killing sprees and killed indiscriminately. But still, I never felt any of them did it because they enjoyed it and thought it was a rocking good time.

I've never seen evidence that they enjoyed torturing other humans and causing pain over humans and their loved ones or would enjoy something like taunting the men of women held hostage or burning the faces off of men that dared care...
Negan has never acted psychotic or out of control.
But he has acted psychopathic and sociopathic..And that's not crazy.

There's a difference between people suffering from PTSD from the apocalypse and people that have just found it an opportunity to dominant and torment other people.
Making Negan a redemptive character will never compute with the actions we've seen him take..There's no putting that genie back in the bottle in a way that makes sense .

But then again...maybe they don't care about what makes sense.

Sure. I would. He does transition to a mostly good guy in the comics. Even saves Rick's life at one point. Maggie has her final confrontation with him. They could do that before she leaves the show. I have little faith in the writers getting all this right, though.

reply

Yes. Negan is now the best suitable candidate for the new lead. Not only is he now the best actor on the show, thematically, his character makes the most sense as the lead.

This is Rick's show. It's hard to imagine another character taking over, other than Carl, since he was pretty much being set up to be the new Rick. But now that is no longer possible. After Carl, Negan makes the most sense, what with the whole Carl's dream of the future. If done right, Negan as the lead could really work. I really hope they do this, as it's like the last chance to fix the show.

Daryl is great and all, but he doesn't make sense thematically. If they're seriously considering him for the lead then it shows AMC don't even understand their own show.

Just shoot this show in the head and put it out of our misery. The writers, the show runners, the network have milked this for all it was worth with putting in barely any effort. It would take one hell of turn around to make this show something interesting again. In saying that, ftwd was horrible and they’ve managed to turn that around in one season. So maybe it can be done. Needs new blood in the writers room though.

reply

You are so right. I think it should just end. When Rick goes, that should have been the ending. Hell, it should have ended this immediate past season.

I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan and love him as Negan, but I think Negan's days of leading are done - who would follow him now?

HOWEVER, unlike others I do not believe the Negan storyline killed the show. Being a reader of the graphic novel, the Negan storyline is one of the very best. Why do you think Negan is still around? Because Kirkman LOVES the character - he admits it.

The problem with the Negan storyline is that many of the scenes play out very well in the pages of a comic but don't come across well on the screen. The show chose to milk this storyline out for way too long....too many filler episodes, if they just would of kept the storyline moving, most of you wouldn't be complaining.

You think the Negan storyline was way too long? Wait to the Whisperers storyline starts.......it is FOREVER!

The violent killing of Glenn turned people off. Then, they had many poorly directed episodes in which the characters behaved stupidly which turned off many more.

reply

The violent killing of Glenn was the best part for me. Alas after that the show took a huge nosedive.

reply

It was too graphic for some fans who swore they wouldn't watch the show anymore. Last season was the worst. Very lazy directing and writing.

A new show runner this season so maybe it'll improve and/or move forward in the story.

reply

That was the only good episode of last season. Too graphic for a zombie show? What do people expect?

reply

Perhaps too graphic because many people really liked Glenn. My hands were literally shaking after I watched that episode. LOL.

Megan cruelly killed their own people and hurt and tortured many others. I could never forgive and follow someone like that. I doubt the characters could either.

Why don't they let carol lead? She's a badass.

I'm afraid they're going to kill her though. They've killed every other good character, so it's probably on its way.
