No interest in seeing this

Am I alone. It just doesn't look good and don't I care for the actor playing Aquaman.

reply

The actor playing Aquaman is sex on legs, the movie is quite entertaining, and the visuals are beautiful, but it's not like anyone is forcing you to see it.

reply

Of course no one is forcing me. I thought maybe someone could change my mind about seeing it. We shall see.

reply

Why would you want someone to change your mind? If you don't want to see it, then don't. If you're curious, then watch it. If all else fails, rent/stream it a few months from now so you can switch it off if you don't like it and not have to worry about spending too much.

reply

I just saw three movies in one week with AMC Stubs A-List, this movie in particular I saw in IMAX - no worrying about spending too much there. I can still see 12-15 more movies just for the $20 I paid for the month.

reply

If that's the case, go watch it and if you don't like it, walk out and see something else.

For the record, I thought it was fun. The action scenes, set designs, and world building is what sold it for me. I thought it felt like Black Panther or some of the better Thor movies. Certainly better than most DCCU movies but that doesn't say much. I think some clips are probably on youtube, so you might be able to judge the movie from that.

reply

I have seen it already - I am not the OP.
I was just commenting on the spending too much money bit - there is really no reason to do that anymore.

reply

I didn't even look at the poster names. My bad.

reply

Actually, Momoa can act really well, but if you want to see him do so, watch 'Braven' because in Waterkanda he's betrayed by a crappy script, weak direction all around, and a bland slate of castmates.

Overall, there is nothing impressive about the movie outside of the technical aspect of wet, CGI hair. I wasn't even a fan of the production design because most of the creatures looked like rejected art from the Star Wars' prequels' underwater bits, and the glowy stuff from The Abyss.

It's a shame this has made so much money, and had anyone BUT Momoa been in the lead, it would have been a 100% disaster IMO. There's zero need to see this film.

reply

Thanks...that is what I thought.

reply

You are just way too negative. "Bland slate of castmates"?? Patrick Wilson is one of the most talented actors out there!

reply

And he’s totally underutilized/wasted here. (= poor direction)

Nicole Kidman is a great actor who is totally wasted here. (= poor direction)

Amber Herd is a Barbie doll prop (=poor casting)

Dolph Lundgren is a prop (= poor casting)

reply

Do you cast actors for movies? If not then why your comment?

reply

I'm pretty much at the point where I'm not interested in seeing any superhero movies at the theater anymore. They are getting repetitive and boring imo. .

reply

True. I did like Spiderman Homecoming though. It had good a good energy to it.

reply

I went in with VERY low expectations. I've never been a huge Aquaman fan and even less of the dude-bro Aquaman we got in Justice League and the DCEU so far has been less than impressive...only Wonder woman has kept the entire venture from being a dumpster fire. Aquaman was surprisingly good. Yes, there are a LOT of homages to other, better movies in there (Return of the Jedi, Jurassic Park and the Raiders movies are all there) but it is definitely a fun watch and Mamoa has a surprising amount of charisma when not hampered by a horrible script and a piss poor director.

This was an INSTANT pre-order on digital for me.

reply

You obviously have a piss poor taste in movies.... Aquman was a phenomenal movie by an amazing director, you also must have never watched any of James Wan's movies cause if you did you'd know that he is an excellent director ho is every good at putting exciting twist and turns in his movies.

I on the other hand believe that DC is taking a very good step in experimenting with this new direction and also have to give props to WB for not giving up on DC movies dispite the previous train wrecks that proves that persistents will always pay off, their even saying that Shazam may very well be the best DC movie since the Dark Knight trilogy which is very incouraging.

reply

I have piss poor taste in movies....yet I said Aquaman was "surprisingly good", "a fun watch" and an "INSTANT pre-order".

Want to admit you didn't read the entire post? And that you, like DCEUfanticarmy, may not be as bright as you wish you were or that you wish people thought you were?

But hey, maybe you're right. Maybe Aquaman isn't ANY of the things I said it was.

reply

No answer?

I mean, you're a Snyder fan so I expect you to be slow. But this is ridiculous.

reply

Aquaman was a "phenomenal" movie"?
I mean, it was fun, but let's not exaggerate now.

reply

I'll even say it was good and in a tie with Wonder Woman with the best of the DCEU movies.

But phenomenal I save for movies like....The Great Escape, Shawshank, Jaws, Lawrence of Arabia, King Kong...you know....phenomenons.

reply

OP, you can skip this movie. If you are one of those people who likes every movie with a big budget then you'll love it. If you think half of the popular movies out there are actually bad, then you should never watch Aquaman.
Bland at best and often cringy. C-

Edit: Mamoa was surprisingly better than I expected. Not great but not quite as plain 'ol dude/bro as in JL. Momoa rose to the occasion and Willem Defoe delivered a head-shaking bad performance with a trope character.

reply

OK, then that pretty much says it all. I do like some big budget movies, but lots of others just aren't good. I suppose skipping this movie is the right thing to do for me.
