I am not a screenwriter, but am I alone in thinking that in the movie:

Indy's motivation should have been to use the Antikythera mechanism to prevent his son 'Mutt' Williams from enlisting in the Vietnam war and thereby being able to save his life?

he could have arkemedes make a statue that says mutt no vietnam and it would be found and be a famous mystery. but would also keep mutt far off from nam.

I thought they made the entire 5th film to rectify the mistake of adding Mutt to the franchise in the first place.

Or that his son was only reported KIA but was actually trying to find an archeological site in Vietnam in the middle of the war. (no time travel at all)
