The look of the new season

I’m liking the new season so far, but the cinematography feels a little lazy almost like the editors added a “cinematic” filter to the picture. The look reminds me of a college/small-budget film that’s trying to look “edgy” but usually comes off as showy.

I think "the look" is probably meant as a contrast to the original series setting of bright, sunny warm & colorful Miami.

From the opening titles on, it looks like a fan-made, YouTube homage to Dexter.

Exactly!

It's very difficult to shoot a long narrative in a winter setting and get any kind of visual continuity. Things can go from bright to dreary in a matter of hours, one day your snow is there, the next it isn't. So to make everything merge together, you kind of got to digitally step all over it. It's annoying but I get it. Especially with a tv show budget.

I've grown to like it. Can't picture it now with the old look.

reply

It would be interesting to see a new opening credits sequence like the old seasons but in the style of the new season.

It's starting to make me nuts how every interior shot is all hazy like there was just a fire five minutes ago.

hit the nail on the head,
i've been fiddling with my TV's picture settings to bring it back to a better look

reply

The icy title sequence is pretty terrible.

reply

Yeah, it looks like it’s from a motion graphics package one would download from a stock footage website.

reply

Whoever gave that title sequence the green light should be fired lol.
