The scene when Beau is watching the play is waaaaaaaaaaay too long.

Such an overlong scene in the middle of the film. It might have been better if it was at the end because this scene took me out for the rest of the film.

The film as a whole was waaaaaaaay too long.

Ari Aster needs to check himself. His directors cut of Midsommar was too long also.

I'm completely fine with long films. Some of my favourite films are over 3hrs long, but this film raises too many questions and doesn't really give a payoff that it feels like 3 hours of nothingness.

reply

Yeah it's too long.
There were some scenes/ aspects I would like to watch again, but I'm dreading sitting through another 3hours of this.
It was somewhat bearable the first time since you had no clue where this was going, but now that I know how the movie ends, the mystery is gone and all there is is deciphering the metaphors.

The metaphor I didn't understand was the dude above the bath tub. Was he supposed to be anxiety?

reply

Did this film ask you to have some modicum of patience? 😳

reply

It definitely did, and I was fine for the first 1.5 hours. But they really took the foot off the pedal for what I think was half an hour. As I said, it would have worked better at the end because at least it wouldn't change the trajectory of the film.

reply

I liked it! It was pretty to look at, rather profound and then ultimately lead to nothing which made the sudden dead end all the funnier.

Beau had a farm
Beau grew vegetables
Beau sold vegetables
Beau had kids
Beau is just hallucinating

You might stick to Transformers movies

reply

Why would I stick to Transformers movies if I don't like them?

reply

Agree. That scene really kind of wrecked the pacing of the movie. I get it's purpose in the story, but it goes on waaayyy too long.
