How were the VR headsets built?

I know they could communicate via sophons but how did they build the advanced tech headset that the physicists and others used? We don't have the tech for it currently so how was it created? They can't send anything physically as it would be 400 years until it gets here, right?

Did I miss the part where it was explained who manufactured them and what parts they used?

reply

No, it was never stated. I presumed that they directed humans on how to make them.

reply

Ah okay. Wish we got something about where they came from. Thanks.

Also troubling was that whenever anyone put one on, it seemed like they fit perfectly right away! But isn't everyone's head different, the distance from the tops of their heads to their eyes variable? Yet, no adjustments at all ever seem to be necessary! :)

Velcro and/or elastic straps aren't very alieny and cool.

weren't they built specifically for each person?

reply

But then others put them on.

They did

It's a good question, because presumably they did not want the humans to develop our techology, the whole reason behind the suicide of the physicists.

On the other hand - they were able to manipulate what people saw, so it could have been nothing at all and just minipulation of their vision.

What bothers me is that if they have such amazing technology and power, why don't they just fix their own sun, or drive their planet off into space or solve their problem some other way?

Probably sent via Amazon Universe.

That’s hilarious!

I figured: Pieces of aluminum.
