A real good movie

A real good movie. Megan can use a knife.

It was okay but the really obvious computer generated lions took me right out of it at the very beginning, kind of unfortunate, as usually I can ignore that kind of stuff.

reply

It was never going to be a theater movie so I'm sure they didn't go to spending big money in making it.

Obvious from this handy graph! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11576124/ratings?ref_=tt_ov_rt

reply

To be fair to the OP, I think a lot of people on IMDB rated it without even watching it.

It's definitely better than a 3.7. Not much better, but better. I'd give it a 5.5.

It's pretty generic and forgettable but not incompetently made.

reply

Okay, well, I watched it.

Here's the good:

- Megan Fox does a decent job with the material that she's given to work with. It's at least a serviceable performance that I didn't mind.

- It's a nice-looking film, all things considered. The director has a solid visual eye.

- Megan is still pretty hot.

And now the bad:

- The story is boring and generic.

- The action scenes are nothing special at all.

- Megan's character is not particularly likable.

- The CGI cat looks pretty bad.

Overall I found it to be an aggressively mediocre action movie and I was barely paying attention by the end. While it is not completely devoid of any bright spots, it also is nowhere near as much fun as I was hoping it would be.

5.5/10

Tremors 7 is out next month. Hurry up and do the 8 movie and Megan can be in the 2 part 9&10 Tremors final movies.

reply

I think I only watched one of the Tremors sequels, A Cold Day in Hell.

It was . . . not a total waste of time and fairly good for direct-to-DVD, but I didn't feel like I necessarily needed to see the rest of the sequels.

reply

It has to end some time. I think it will be done better than Sharknado or Star Ship Troopers. And Michael Gross wants 3 more movies.

A lot of the special effects were awful straight-to-dvd quality.
Especially the alligator scenes and people jumping of a cliff, etc, etc.
Those really threw me off.

reply

The cat was certainly the worst. The helicopter getting blown out of the air was probably the best effect.

I remember the scene with the alligator but frankly I was already only half-paying attention by then so I didn't really notice the quality of the effects.

It is weird though that the effects were, overall, so poor, because the movie otherwise had a fine look to it and didn't appear to be particularly cheap.

reply

ikr.

Usually if the effects are cheap the rest of the look is also cheap AF.

Carpets matching the drapes kinda situation.

I watched the guy pick up the RPG to shoot down the helicopter and said to myself, "here's where you either commit to this movie or turn it off" depending on the CGi in that shot. It looked fantastic.

The alligator scene looked fine. The dropping off the cliff... not so much.

Megan Fox is a very monotone actress who can't emote, but is really easy on the eyes. She doesn't ruin the movie, but I could think any decent actress or one that looks like they can carry an assault rifle and chew scenery would have been loads better.

Regarding Megan, I think at least some of that had to do with the way the character was written. I thought it a rather perplexing decision to make the lead character unlikable--remember that she didn't want to rescue ALL the girls early in the movie because she wasn't getting paid for that--but that is the character that they made.

Maybe the writer and director thought that's what "bad ass" looks like, someone who's constantly steely-eyed and just wanting to complete the mission and profit. She has some softer moments later on in the story but not many of them.

reply

I got a theory that the role was originally written for a man. When they got Fox they tweaked it. That's why the character was overall written that way.

reply

That could be. I actually remember reading a comment from the director about how casting Megan was an intentional choice because she felt like Megan didn't get the credit she deserved as an actress and she wanted to give her a chance to shine in a role she probably wouldn't be offered by anyone else.

It could very well be the case though that the script was originally written long before that was even a thought in the director's mind.

reply

Did he say that? Yeah, I got to think the director was not thinking "Megan Fox!" when he got that script. He said that after she became available...

reply

I bought the dvd because of Megan. I hope she gets cast in Tremors final if they do a Tremors 9&10.Like Fast and Furious.

reply

I just looked for the article but couldn't find it. But yeah, that was the comment, the director intentionally wanted to cast Megan Fox because Megan is underrated and needed an opportunity to show what she can do in a film like this.

I actually thought that Megan handled the physicality pretty well. No, she's not really believable as a battle-hardened mercenary, but she could do the action. I wouldn't mind seeing her in other, hopefully better, action films. It would be interesting to see how she'd do if she were cast in something like Lucy, The Long Kiss Goodnight or Underworld. I don't think she'd do as well as any of the actresses that were actually cast as the leads in those films, but I'd still be interested in seeing her do a role LIKE those.

reply

I would think that helicopter couldn't carry everyone on the team back plus the extra girls. Maybe the first plan was get the girl on the helicopter and the team would drive back in the vehicles. Still it was a good movie and she needs to make more.
