Let's be honest ...

It's a pretty poor effort from all concerned and we've all seen this story and character before , only much more entertaining etc

Totally forgettable and has zero watch again attraction !

I've already forgotten what happens in it

I'm a fan of the genre, and I liked it. Still processing.
You say "we've all seen this" before. What other movies come to mind? Spoilers herein...

Tilda Swinton's character is reminiscent of the beginning of Assassins where a hitman's taken out to the swamps and says something to the effect, "Jesus, I sound like a mark."

The reason why this is a cut above most is the tradecraft. The patois is also nice and didn't sound try-hard (e.g., passing mention of "Annie Oakley jobs"). Repeating his mantras, the protagonist sounds like Bourne from Ludlum novels: "Rest is a weapon." The fight sequence was excellent. In many ways it deconstructs the genre. Some of the fun moments are realized when nothing happens. It's unclear why he allowed Swinton to have her left hand under the dinner table the whole time. The very end with this face-twitch thing -- well played.

There's definitely a number of hitman movies where they are ultimately betrayed by their handler and have to clean up a mess. The most recent one that felt similar to this was probably You Were Never Really Here. Obviously there are differences in all the similar movies so I'm not calling it a ripoff, but it just felt familiar while I was watching it. Overall I enjoyed it though.

We've seen it before yes, but Fincher and Fassbender give it just enough nuance to keep it interesting.

If anyone's interested, I reviewed the movie on my youtube channel. Appreciate any feedback. Trying to improve -https://youtu.be/YvLnNJT4IT0

I don't know what I saw, and I'll soon forget it

Maybe you did see it, you don't know

Damn, you just inceptioned me?

I wouldn’t call it a poor effort at all. While certainly not Fincher’s best work, it was a stylish and well-done thriller.

Admittedly, it was rather cold and nihilistic, which may be a turn-off for some viewers who were expecting a fun action movie, but imo this was a nice change of pace. The Killer is probably the least glorifying ‘hit man’ movie I have seen, which I absolutely appreciated.

The basic plot may be familiar, but the execution was anything but.
