On Track to Beat The Queen's Gambit...

...as the most watched Netflix limited series.

When I read that somewhere, I thought, "I have to watch this show," because I thought The Queen's Gambit was the best series I had watched in quite a while. Could this one be even better? No!

It turned out, IMO, to be like watching a slow-moving train wreck. Maybe I just didn't have the right sensibility. While this one had great production values and acting, and while I sympathized with Alex (Margaret Qualley), I could only get through 3 episodes (almost 3 hours), until I couldn't take it anymore.

I decided to at least see how it ended, so I watched the last two episodes (total of 5 out of 10), where Alex has reached rock bottom, but finally begins to assert herself against Nick, her abusive boyfriend. I won't go into details, because that would necessitate revealing spoilers. Suffice it to say, it didn't make me like the series a lot more.

Again, IMO, there's no way this approaches The Queen's Gambit in excellent film making.

What makes you think that excellence is popular? Most people like crap.

I haven't seen the queen's gambit yet, but that is up next in my watchlist. This show I didn't really enjoy, mainly because nothing really happened. This guy almost hit her, so she left, then moved around, came back, he threw something past her head, she left again. That's it. The end.

The Queen’s Gambit is a much, much better series.

Watched Queen's Gambit since making that post. Can confirm, 1000x better than this Maid crap!

Both great, but I think I like Maid more.

So I just finished Maid... To me it was like a Lifetime Movie.. So many unnecessary moments like the cleaning of the hoarders house (which was very unrealistic) and the Nate guy which was actually annoying. Andie Mcdowell was so irritating I couldnt bear her. She was a cartoon parody of the character she was portraying.
Being that they are real life mother and daughter was sweet..To make a series with your daughter would be a moms dream so I am happy for them in that sense.
I only watched the Queens Gambit a few times, and felt it was no Dowton Abby. It cant compare and it didnt hold my interest. The costuming was beautiful I recall but the storylines and the acting was a bit overplayed.
I might give it another try seeing how so many liked it here.
