Good movie

Better than expected, formulaic but at the same time innovative.
The damaged veteran angle was interesting and it worked perfectly with the dog theme.
I LIKE IT.

Just watched it and agreed, this was surprisingly good, could have been formulaic and dull but was enjoyable from start to finish, very fun and hit the emotional beat spot on with the ending.

It was so much better than I expected. I thought that it would be a family movie, but I'm a dog lover so I wanted to see it. It turned out to be a pretty damn good drama with some funny moments too. Channing Tatum was great and I loved the soundtrack too. Definitely going to watch it again in the future. 8/10

Yes, quite grounded and real, and never stupid nor sappy.
Very nice.
I am a dog lover but I don't think it mattered to appreciate it.

The damaged vet is a cliché.

reply

Not really, not the way done here.
He knows he is damaged but he cheats to pretend he can still work.
I found this angle not overplayed.
And his emotional situation too, was realistic and not a cliche: his damage is not typical movie vet stereotype, like Rambo or Hurt Locker.
And it was well integrated with the dog story, who was also a damaged vet, which is also a new take on a trite story.

reply

Yeah, totally. I liked the movie very much and the "odessy" the two characters go through.

But, I like, the based on a true story, 'Megan Leavey' more. Plus, Kate Mara is Kate Mara. Can't go wrong with that, indeed.

reply

Yes, it's a good movie.
I like it very much also.
With a clear message:
Recognize if you've a trauma and accept help.
Everything will become fine again.

Wouldn't call it a family movie.
The protagonist chases the cannabis farmer with an axe.
Children 12 years and older are allowed to watch it here alone.
Accompanied by a parent, children from the age of 6 can watch it.

A sad and funny road movie with a great dog comrade.
And thanks to Ranb in the other thread for the hint:

Now I know where the name Rodriguez came from.
Lucca is a nice dog's name also.
She was a real hero! ♥
