Not complete dogshit

I have just watched episode 1, and it felt like Game of Thrones. Pacing was good, dialogue was generally good, drama was good, didn't feel forced or contrived. A few jarring diversity casts but I can look past that if the show is good (which it has been so far) and if that is my only complaint this show is doing pretty good.

Let's hope they don't fuck it up.

Lol. I too am pleased to see it wasn't dog shit. Its sad our expectations were so low. However, just as you said, it felt like GOT. That was my biggest concern from the start.

I liked it a lot, but it's lacking interesting characters. Daemon's character stood out, but more because of his creepy looks than development. It will desperately need new characters.

Off the top of my head...

1. A couple characters to plug in humor and ground the show. In GOT they had Tyrion and Sam.

2. Characters who chews scenery like Tywin, Baellish, and Olenna. Smith looks like he could do it but he can't do it alone.

There is no way they are gonna top Charles Dance's performance in GoT.

It's definitely better than the later seasons of Thrones so far. Also, Miguel Sapochnik proves once again he's a brilliant director.

BTW, I'm so sick of them ending episodes with the dragon screech audio, it's happened like a dozen times now and is almost comical at this point.

I was entertained, but it hasn't grabbed me yet. I'm waiting for either the moment it feels like GOT is reborn, or the down turn of quality that plagued the final couple of season.

There is always the possibility that it is just good enough to stand on its own without reaching the highs of the original or the lows of the final seasons.

Honestly none of the characters stand out to me yet. They have time to build them out as long as the rest of the story is good, but I suspected I would have an early favorite by the end of the 1st episode.

We should continue to keep our expectations low.

Yep thats pretty much how I feel about it to. If 2nd episode can deliver I will probably start to get a bit of that rising expectation going. Always the optimist I guess.

I expect to see the crabfeeder guy feeding the crabs around mid-season.
