Congrats to Sony for delivering the first profitable MCU film in over two years.

Sony is performing like Universal this year.

reply

This is why I think it's a good thing Sony has control over Spider-Man. It forces Marvel/Disney to have to collaborate with people that actually want to make money and not just push agendas.

reply

Yeah... how did that go for 'Morbius'?

reply

You mean thanks to marvel/disney for delivering a profitable movie that will shared with sony

And disney had had many profitable movies this year so not sure why you think its been 2 years? You been living under a rock queen lol

reply

"many profitable movies this year"?

Could you name them and cite the stats?

reply

Black widown shang chi , soiderman no way home no doubt, black widowm made 60 million off disney plus

How come you dont comment on the shocking record wb, sony and universal had this year? How come you shill againt disney ? Disney owns the box office this year no doubt about it , and disney + brings in another 10 billion in revenue per annum , boom.

reply

One of those is Sony not Disney.

Lol

I don't see any stats on profitability on Black Widow and Shang Chi?

I'll wait for you to break it down for me

reply

Spiderman is distributed by sony, disney marvel produced the movie , its a massive hit thanks to disney/marvel its part of the mcu

reply

Yes the only profitable film from the MCU in over two years. Too bad Sony keeps 75% of the final profit compared to Disney's 25%.

reply

75%, gonna need to see a receipt for that stat, post the link when your ready

reply

I see you aren't going to provide actual numbers showing how Shang Chi and Black Widow have already made a profit?

reply

https://observer.com/2021/09/marvel-black-widow-hit-flop-disney-plus-box-office/

Read and weep, although it didnt make big numbers its certainly not a flop, not like TSS and WW84 lol

reply

"read and weep"

Even an article pushing the narrative that Black widow is a "hit" isn't even sure the film has broken even yet lolol.

reply

Its made a profit, as did shang chi , by all means please prove me wrong

reply

Profit on a much lower scale, not really a profit profit. I don't know how they count stream profits though if everyone was subscribed beforehand as it allows them to watch other shows besides just that movie so does it even count? It's like counting how many subscribers you have and counting it as profit or just the amount of people that watched the movie as profit since they're already subbed. You guys also forgot ETERNALS, lol. Guess that wasn't worth mentioning.

reply

Rorikon...so true

IF Black Widow has eked out a profit...and that's a big IF... it is so small as to be negligible.

That's not even factoring in the cost of Scarlett's legal settlement.

reply

The article you use to back you up even says they aren't sure if it made a profit and they said even if it did it was tiny lolololol...and that's YOUR article to back your claim.

Shang Chi has still not broken even.

reply

,"Disney owns the box office this year"

lolololol

In what category....most expensive flops?

Eternals...West Side Story(some are calling it the flop of the year).

And how bout in animation? Yikes!

Raya and the Lost Dragon? Encanto? Do you even realize the money Disney has been losing on these catastrophies, furiousstyles? You also know that for all of your ballyhooing about Disney + and it's 10 billion revenue that is ALSO still losing money, right?

If Disney+ ever shows a profit it will be years out from now.

reply

name me a studio thats made more this year than Disney?

reply

Disney has but they have released the most and spent (by far) the most on their films. Sony is right behind them but at much less money spent.

reply

How 'bout Disney's once-mighty Pixar? It's a pile of rubble now.

Last year's Onward is painful to contemplate how much they lost on that

Luca? It cost over 150 million to produce and they didn't even release it theatrically. LOL. They ended up showing it for free on Disney +...y'know their streaming service that IS ALSO LOSING MONEY.

Yes...one success after another.

reply

All studios lost money during the last 2 years. But Disney has 4 of the top 6 movies at the box office this year.

reply

4 of 6 worldwide or domestic? Either way I not seeing it shake out like that on the year to date charts on box office mojo.

What are these 4?

reply

the 4 Marvel movies.

reply

Nope Spiderman is Sony. It's MCU but it's Sony.

Venom has zero attachment to Marvel Studios or the MCU and is 100% Sony.

Only Shang Chi and Black Widow are Disney and ironically are the two of the four you listed that didn't make a profit or have even lost money.

reply

The next Venom sequel may be a Marvel Studios production but this one was not. 100% Sony. But thanks for the article as it was interesting.

reply

NWH is Sony and Disney so wrong again queen

reply

Spider-man is both Disney and Sony. I said 4 of the top 6 and linked you to the BOmojo page. Can you not count to 4? If I was including venom it would be 5/6.. it could still be 4/5 (not including venom).

reply

Sorry I was thinking top 5 when I was looking at that chart. So yes...the huge money-loser Eternals is #6 and it is Disney.

Again...No Way Home is a Sony Film with only 25% of NET PROFITS NOT GROSS going to Disney. It is not an equal partnership. And why on earth should Venom even be talked about as a Disney film. They got a flat licensing fee and that's it.

With your logic, we could say Universal Studios Orlando is also a Disney Park since they have Marvel characters and rides in their park.

reply

So it would be correct to say Disney owns 3 of the top 6 DOMESTIC films so far this year and of those 3 one is possibly/questionably/ barely in the black, the second is nowhere near breaking even and the last is at least 100 million in the hole.

Hence the title and original message of this thread.

You're welcome.

reply

I don't think Disney even released a movie last year, and the first movie they released this year was in May, which is 7 months ago. Marvel is a subsidiary of Disney, and they delivered the movie to Sony, not the other way around. So a correct title would be "congrats to Disney for making their 4th profitable movie in 7 months".

reply

So many erroneous statements in this post starting with "I don't think Disney even released a movie last year"...

... and ending with...

"their 4th profitable movie in 7 months"...

and everything in between.

Google is your friend.

P.S.- Are you still under the belief that Disney "delivered" Venom to Sony?

reply

Oh my bad, Onward was in Cinemas for 10 days in 2020, lol. What a pedant you are Queenie.

reply

You do hate disney dont you, why is that ? Which studio didnt lose money this year, the pandemic has crippled the industry you fool, look at wb, tss, ww84 which you said would be the biggest film of the year , disney + losing money, fuck out of here u shill , deluded, no mention of sonys venom losing money, or universals flops.

reply

You're embarrassing yourself yet again, furious styles

Anyone that knows anything about the entertainment industry knows that Disney+ has a long way to go before it hits profitability.

reply

Queen, you have been embarrassing yourself for years, its a known fact, WW84 will be the biggest movie in 2021 ,Disney + Revenue 2021 9.6 billion, prove to me with facts how its not profitable?

reply

Sony is performing like universal this year....
.yeh badly lol

reply

Sony writes back:

Thank you lickspittle!

reply

lol, lickspittle! I think I've only ever heard that insult in one of the Lord of the Rings books.
