Blade finds new director

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/blade-will-be-rated-r-marvel-1235267361/

Details are being kept under wraps but sources say the new intent is for Blade to dark and gritty in tone, falling on the edgier side of Marvel fare and maybe even find common shading with the fondly-remembered Blade movies made in the early 2000s by New Line.

The plan is go into production in Atlanta in 2023, maintaining Blade’s release date that is set for Sept. 6, 2024

That direction is encouraging but I'd be surprised if it's actually rated R.

reply

This cast doesn't seem likely they will push out a r movie.

Probably a "dark pg13" like The Dark Knight or The Winter Soldier.

I think Deadpool is the exception. I don't see any of the main MCU heroes getting an R-rated movie

I think Kevin Feige and a few others that do all the behind-the-camera/behind-the-scenes stuff have confirmed Blade WILL be PG-13. I'm not worried though. Just look at Hellboy. Everyone considers the better Hellboy to be the Ron Perlman Hellboy aka PG-13 Hellboy, not the R-rated David Harbour Hellboy. Also, I prefer the 90's Mortal Kombat movie over the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, and the 90's movie was PG-13 while the 2021 movie was R. Then there is Werewolf By Night. That had some graphic stuff in it, but it was TV-14 (I think), which is pretty much the TV rating equivalent of a PG-13. But Werewolf By Night was in black and white though. So a lot of blood and gore was hidden/covered up by the special being in black and white, allowing them to get away with stuff. The MCU Blade will more than likely not be in black and white. For me, I care more about good story/plot and likable/well developed characters than a rating. So I'm going to be patient and give the MCU's Blade a chance. I'm pretty sure if I don't like it, it won't be because of the MPAA rating. I'm pretty sure that I'll probably not like the movie more because the now-tiresome/overused humor the MCU has now before I start pointing fingers at the MPAA rating.

Good comparison to Hellboy.

Why are they even doing this with Mahershala Ali. The guy is going to be 60 by the time it's released.

reply

Should have just brought back Snipes.
