Weird that this has such a low RT score...

As people are pointing out online, the Rotten Tomatoes ratings usually fall in Marvel's favour - a lot of the mediocre reviews of this film still have "fresh" ratings due to the scoring system.

Here are some examples: https://twitter.com/jessehawken/status/1544366139806973953?s=21&t=L5zVkcmDVMztIVMnc16nMg

Rotten Tomatoes also gave Tomatometer accreditation to a ton of comic book sites, fan blogs, etc. a few years ago, which review this genre of movies favourably. For example, Comicbook.com is RT-accredited.

So, as much as fans complain about critics, Tomatometer - by design - usually leans in favour of Marvel films. It's strange, even for a non-fan like myself, to see that 'Thor: Love and Thunder' already has a lower score than 'Minions: The Rise of Gru'.

reply

It's still fairly high at 71 percent, but yeah, that's not very good for a Marvel movie. Possibly it is one of their weaker efforts. I don't know. I don't pay too much attention to any of the critics that are RT approved. I wonder what the guys at Red Letter Media think?

reply

I think your error is in thinking that Rotten Tomatoes gives some special leeway to Marvel. They aggregate reviews, plain and simple, and don't skew anything for, or against, anyone.

reply

Wrong, former Disney executive Paul Yanover runs Rottentomatoes. "Obi wan Kenobi" has a critics score of 83% but only shows 2 pro critic reviews as evidence.

reply

I believe that is because all the individual reviews are attached to specific episodes.

Go to the episodes to find those reviews.

reply

"The Terminal List" shows 40 pro critic reviews.

reply

i believe the difference there is that all episodes of the terminal list were available immediately, meaning the entire series could be reviewed.

for obi wan i believe only the initial two episodes were open for review, & then additional episodes were reviewed upon release.

i believe that explains why the reviews are structured differently for those series.

reply

Exactly this.

The Batman and The Suicide Squad are certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes so why isn’t the OP saying that Rotten Tomatoes falls in favour of DC recently?

"But succeeds as the MCU's first romantic comedy thanks to Hemsworth and Portman chemistry"

Hemsworth and Portman didn't have any chemistry in the first two movies. Because Hemsworth is charismatic and Portman is a complete Bore of an actress. That why Ragnarok was better without her.

reply

I don't dislike Portman as performer, but she is hit-and-miss. Sometimes she's great, sometimes it seems like she's acting in a TV commercial.

reply

Portman is much better in this, they’ve also written her character to be more funny and likeable this time around.

reply

In this movie they still don't have any chemistry, really.
