Did Superman make the League redundant?

I know Superman was supposed to be the big gun, but in the climax, none of the other members seemed to accomplish much without him doing most of the work. Flash saved a truck full of people, but he saved a building. Cyborg shut down the Motherboxes, but Superman had to pull them apart. Steppenwolf was beating up Aquaman and Wonder Woman, so Superman had to smack him around and freeze his axe for Wonder Woman to break. It almost seemed as though they could have had the entire team sit it out while Superman did everything for them.

Exactly, the others sucked balls, and only one able to actually do anything was Superman, one of my biggest gripes with the movie. Making everyone except Superman look weak, even in their face off, he owned the JL, no sweat. Far far stronger and faster than WW/Aquaman/Cyborg, as fast as The Flash, or very close to.

Guess only thing he's missing, is Cyborgs ability to integrate into machines. :D I far preffered BvS take on their "powerlevels", where Supes only appeared slightly more powerful than WW. -.-

They apparently retconned Wonder Womans ability to stand with the big boys, as in BvS where she fared well/held her own, against an opponent a good bit more powerful than Superman, (and far more than Steppenwolf, for that matter)... Now Supes easily solos her. :D God, this movie seems to be made by Superman fanboys.

Success should have been through teamwork, not one man army... Fucks sake, this movie was frustrating.

TL;DR: Yes, sadly.

Pretty much. It felt like the big kid in the schoolyard at the end.

Batman: "The kids are punking meeeeeeee!!! bwah bwah bwah"
The other JL kids: "We should call "the big kid" and teach them a lesson"

He did make the rest look useless in that final fight.

Now just make them look useless, it was directly embarrasing to witness a villain Superman could easily defeat alone, while the combined JL couldn't. Looking back at BvS it surprises me even more, seeing Diana could hold her own vs. Doomsday, who's apparently so far above Steppenwolf in power and speed, it's not even funny.

Still can't get over Aquaman getting manhandled by a weak villain underwater either... It didn't sow despair, it only made me annoyed.

Why not let him be too late to interefering, and have a moment in the final battle Steppenwolf gets under water, and there he pulls a Superman on him, forcing Steppenwolf to take the fight up on land.

Why the FUCK not let everyone shine?

reply

If true....this may be the most faithful adaptation of the source material EVER. Because, sorry.....it was that way for DECADES in the JLoA.

reply

Which is why it's better if it's not based 100% on the base material - because it's bad af. It's for young kids.

In comparison, BvS Doomsday fight/villain was a masterpiece compared to this. Hell, even Batman participated better in the Doomsday fight, than Aquaman/Wonder Woman/Cyborg/Le Flash did vs. Steppenwolf. As a team.

All of a sudden, Superman just vastly overshadows EVERYONE, instead of only being a bit more powerful as portrayed in BvS, which is sadly far better than JL. Only thing about the whole Superman ordeal I liked, was his more easygoing attitude at the end.

It's annoying the others are secondrate heroes, and I salute Marvel for not making that mistake - just about everyone get's to shine there, even if outclassed.

Here's it's like one of those animated shows, where's it's just bad and inconsistent af. :/

Yeah he was a Mary Sue for sure.

reply

Ermmm.... He is the SUPERman... Of course he makes everyone else redundant and useless...

It is bittersweet because in one hand you have the most faithful adaptation of superman since Christopher Reeve. This guy smiles, has bad jokes, seems to smile in very inapropiate situations (avoiding a Steppenwolf punch and just going like “lawl this guy sucks”) pretty much the way pre crisis superman BS happened.

You also have him settle the score with Batman fans, which I appreciate. They made superman horribly dumb and weak and moody in BvS and Batman just humiliated him in that fight.

As stated in one of the posts above, it seems like this movie was made by superman fans just as much as BvS by Batman fans, except both movies were made by the worst kinds of fans because it jus plays out like fan service. In one movie you have Batman literally humiliating superman in a fight, in the other movie you have superman destroying the whole league and Batman got humiliated worst than anyone because he just dispensed of him like a garbage bag. Then Batman is all like “oh, time for the big guns!!!!” Right, the big guns is his girlfriend and superman is like, ok, I dont want to kill these n00bs anymore, lets go make out, WOOOSHHHH!!!

It really, really was ridculous... but at least faithful to how the character used to be!

On the other hand, this good version of superman was wasted on such a horrible movie :( it has a few good things going for it but the movie overall and the moustache removal really made superman look bad, even when he was looking good.

Superman had the edge over the rest but it may have been harder for him if they weren't there. Without them there to draw off the demon alien horde and Cyborg's talent of accessing the Motherboxes' systems, Superman may not have been able to coordinate an attack that would have prevented Steppenwolf from succeeding in his plan.

In any case, we're supposed to believe that a superhero team is better than a unilateral effort on the part of a sole hero. It's a fair point given that in previous stories they had real problems with alien invaders who were ultra-determined and very powerful. Now Lex Luthor is on the loose and is apparently planning to form his own team to take on the Justice League - so you have an "arms race" scenario whereby the conditions keep changing and new challenges arise so Superman and co need to focus on a team effort.

Even then, the League comes off as sidekicks rather than teammates.
