Could Baelish be alive (spoilers)

Do you think that it was a faceless man that died instead of Baelish?

In Episode 5 of Season 7 Littlefinger gives the COIN OF BRAVOS to that random blonde lady in Wintefell. That blonde Lady is a faceless man that died in his place. When Sansa Asked Littlefinger if he knew about the faceless man Baelish gave a little smirk. Baelish also mentioned that his great grandfather was from Braavos.

It seemed out of character for Littlefinger to beg and cry for his life, he was always one step ahead of everyone and should have seen it coming. Guy is too smart.

He was "too smart" when he was well written. He hasn't been that smart in a very long time.

I think what they were going for was a view of 2 worlds. Ned thrived in the North but died in the south due to his inability to adapt. Littlefinger thrived in the south, but died in the North cause he couldn't adapt.

Since the show writers have been tasked with bringing the show to and end and wrapping it up somewhat quickly, there just doesn't seem to be any interest in writing Littlefinger and Vary's as mastermind characters anymore. I suspect that Vary's is not long for this world for the same reason.

A Faceless Man wouldn't have let Arya cut his throat.

No, Littlefinger is dead, and there's one less contender for the Iron Throne. It's part of the general plan to streamline the plot and reduce the number of characters in time for the finale, and I agree that it wasn't as well done as it might have been, because Littlefinger isn't the guy who begs for his life or lets his feelings for a girl make him stupid.

I don't really like Baelish the person, but he is a great character on the show. I agree that he got that poorly written death because they need to steamroll to the finale. Condense the cast. If they did fake out his death I don't know what they would do with his character, he is sort of on his own since the Vale won't help him. Perhaps we won't see the last of his face, as Arya could use it as part of her plan to kill Cersei. Not sure if that would work, can't remember what kind of terms Baelish left on Cersei with.

reply

Okay, I'll speculate. If he were really alive then he'd be fucked, the Vale Knights are through with him, the Starks are his blood enemies, and there's hundreds of miles of deep, deep snow between him and any sort of safety. He's got no real power base of his own, his official seat is a ruined castle in the chaotic Riverlands, and if Cersei was stupid enough to trust him again then Euron Greyjoy wouldn't be.

And there's no more room in the show for an agent of chaos, it's all about the living vs. the dead from now on. So if Baelish isn't actually dead, there's no way he could stay alive long.

Alive and posting on Moviechat, apparently!

While that would be a very interesting development and is certainly preferable to the ending they wrote for him, I have to agree with ColdofWinter. He was a great character.

reply

I don't think it was his feelings that got him killed but his overconfidence in his own ability to manipulate everyone around him. He began to take his skills for granted as superior and underestimated the people around him.
Everyone around him changed and he did not. And he was too narcissistic to see.

And smart though he was he always seemed so transparently full of shit to me. It was only a matter of time that it caught up with him..

The theory is gaining traction

Totally.

Littlefinger reacted with fear when Cersei was about to order her guards to kill him sometime in season two. So it wasn't out of character for him to beg for his life. He was a manipulator without honor not a warrior.

Despite that, I would have rather seem him stick around for the final season.

reply

I think it was in perfect character for Littlefinger to beg for his life. He was clearly gunning for marrying Sansa but failed. He was out of his league in the North.

Besides, this is the last season now....they have to tie things up.
